Is that worth more than Painite, available from the same ring?

Depends. A short EDDB search shows that:

• Painite can sell for up to +400k, but rarely and at low demand, so you're unlikely to get that price. Next better selll is ~100k, still only a few stations at low to moderate demand
• Platinum and Osmium can sell at ~250k, and there are a lot of stations that will pay that price with usually a healthy demand

So while you may be able to sell small amounts of Painite at a higher price, if you want to go for earning money, Platinum and Osmium are much more reliable.

Is that worth more than Painite, available from the same ring?

The problem is the time to sell the stuff. If youre not worried by the earnings rate, you can pick up anything. The optimal way is just platinum because you find a station that gives a good price using the edtools/mining tool, then one trip to sell and back to mining.

Having said that, there is also Osmium in those rings. Quite often the stations with good platinum price also have good Osmium price, but not always, so sometimes I pick up that too; however, it's a bit of a gamble that quite often doesn't pay off. For the first trip with just platinum, you can check the price of osmium when you sell. if it's high enough, get that too for the next trip before the price of platinum goes down and you have to find somewhere else to sell it.

Once you have a fleet carrier of your own parked nearby, you can pick up all the high value stuff because you lose very little time storing it on the carrier, and you can sell it in bulk later
