Beginners: Caution!

Hi all :)

For those who are new to elite, and specially those who never played any elite series before, a few things you SHOULD know, BEFORE going into the Elite Dangerous world:

- First of all, go through all SOLO mission, this ist the very first thing to do.
This way you'll map correctly your keys or configure an external soft VoiceAttack. And for sure you won't have it all right after a certain time, and certain number of death!
Also, you'll acquire some basic flight maneuvers and things which happen in space.
I'd like to all write it a few times, cause it's hell important. Up to you now

- Online/solo: Get used to travelling around!
Get confident with your nav now. How to jump, how it works. When jumping and supercruising around, you'll often overshot your destination. Nothing wrong here, just more chances to get Interdicted, agressed by pirates.
here a first tip: don't panic, all interdictions I got, I ran of. Make sure all your pips are on engines, always, and relaunch the supercruise as soon as your ship permits it. Run offs worked always for me.
So remember: get confident with traveling, do a few jumps!

- Docking... get used to it!
Understand when it's time (from what distance) to request docking, and get through the letterbox correctly, w/o smashing around. Also be ready to avoid things around, it goes damn fast boom. Once inside, same stuff, get it fast and clear down to your pad, and get into your hangar.
If you don't go into the hangar, another ship MIGHT destroy you, **** happens. Put all chances to your side. Dock undock several times around, and get used to.

- Online/solo: Don't buy anything
Why the hell?! Well easy: what you buy, you can lose it in a glitch. First of all it's BETA, do not forget that, so you'll get wiped once the final release comes out in a few month: be assured of that. I read here that making credits is easy, no it isn't, at least for beginners! (and i'm still at beginner stage I guess :D ). Now, as you can travel around and dock quite nicely and fast, buying NOW after doing some missions would be a mistake. A mistake in the sense that you'll loose it fastly afterwards. A glitch, beta bug, other beginner error, what ever. You're not yet prepared for it, neither losing the hard earned money.
At this stage I'd suggest to mission around, kill, buy, sell, what ever, make money. If you buy a first ship with 12k credits, make sure you can afford a loss of your ship... cause you'll start again from 0 with nothing left but your tears.

Now I'm sure others will have different approach about how to start. If you ever played diablo2, in Hardcore mode, then remember: you never went into unknown places/difficulty level with your fresh past level 90 char... if he dies, you'll start with 0. Same here. If you put all your balls into the same basket, and it gets shooted, you start it over all again.

No leveling, just space, you, and the others! And at this state, remember: BETA, so you'll get wiped soon or later, entering final state.

Personaly, owning 12K credits, not buying anything now, I can't afford to loose. Thought upgrading things for the Sidewinder, but... one click on buy, one mistake one start all over again :D

Now of course, no real-life impact, you can kamikaze game too, this is just a warning to new comers :D

Any other throughts of more advanced players welcome, OF COURSE :D

Most important: Have fun, remember, it's a game!

Be prepared to make a really stupid decision and pay the price right after. I finally got my Lakon type 9 and had to get up from the computer to go check why kids were screaming outside the house and when I got back I had a nice waiting to respawn message.

I will never make the mistake of not logging out first when I'm about to get up :)

Actually I tried 2-3 times to finish the 3rd mission and decided to give up on it until my HOTAS shows up (today I hope). However I learned to fly well enough to travel station to station and boost away from fights.

After 2 days playing I now have the cheap hauler and could buy a cobra but I'm going to wait til I have about 1/2 a mil. I like having a nest egg in games like this :) I have not died even once so far. I haven't been attacked by a player yet, so I see no real reason to advise playing solo. Just be careful.

I can't relate to people who are having such a hard time with it. :S
