As an old fart I look on with much bemusement at the youth tirelessly crusading against one another's points of view or some other game entirely (you know who you are), as though their very lives depended upon it! Whilst the effort exerted is substantial, it is (IMO) far from commendable and to an old timer is as much a waste of my time as reading the daily mail in an attempt to gain knowledge.
There was a time when this forum was a place to come and learn about the game, perhaps even to discuss in a civilised tone the mechanics - both positive and negative.
Fortunately with a little bit of forum savvy that dream can once again be realised! By simply avoiding any threads or posts with certain tell tale markers you can once again graze here on objective, non-child like informative discussion, safe in the knowledge that you won't inadvertently have your IQ torpedoed by rhetoric written by people who's need to be right and angry overshadows logic, common sense and civility.
Ladies and gentleman I proudly present THE LIST...
Fanboi - a term given over to people who blindly follow the game, unable to see its flaws OR somebody who doesn't agree with your position and can't understand why you get so mad all of the time.
White knight - a person who will defend the decisions the game developers have made with their dying breath, unable to accept any kind fault with either the game or the developers themselves OR somebody who doesn't agree with your position and can't understand why you get so mad all of the time.
Salty - a savoury addition to any decent portion of chips OR someone displaying an aptitude for moaning.
Rage quit - somebody who doesn't like an aspect of the game that has been implemented or changed and threatens to leave because of it, though in reality they rarely do.
Star Citizen - a Ponzi scheme of such evil design and deviousness that an entire generation of crusaders have hijacked another games forum to mock, ridicule and bully anyone who may have even a passing interest in its development. Avoid at all costs!!!
Broken - a term used to describe a game mechanic that doesn't work the way you want it to - not to be confused with the more more rational term - actually broken.
Nerfed - a person shot with a plastic gun that shoots foam bullets OR a mechanic that has been cut back on / toned down. This is a grey area term that is often used in sensible conversation as well as by "rage quitters", so ones own discretion should utilised here. It is though a silly word and should have no place in civilised adult conversation!
Unwashed masses - anyone who fails to see the humour of this post.
As you can see there are a myriad of potential pitfalls to watch out for as you navigate these treacherous forums - but, with care, determination and a bit of luck you too can actually learn how to play the game you came here to learn about without the unnecessary distraction of trawling through swamp loads of verbal diarrhoea.
You are welcome!
