Is this a new mechanic, because I haven't encountered this before. I'm being interdicted quite frequently by fed navy ships despite actually being pledged to the fed. All they do is pull me out of SC, sit there and do nothing or scan me and then fly off.

This has always happened to me... Fairly rare though.
What I don't understand is why fed navy ships are interdicting fed ships for no reason, it makes no sense.

It's a bug. In warzone or lockdown systems they're supposed to stop and scan you but they only do the stop part.
To clarify, the bug is that they don't scan you or if it happens in systems that are not in lockdown/war etc. — The interdiction itself is intentional - If you look at the chat, they will be saying something like: "This is a military blah blah" or "This system is in martial law, submit to a scan".

I don't mind these too much.
But when the snotty Ensign in the Eagle that has interdicted me (an Admiral in the Federation Navy Reserve), I expect a bit more than "Be on your way". More like "Sorry to have bothered you Sir, afraid the checks are mandatory."

You are not a fed ship, at best you are auxiliary navy. If the military puts an area on lockdown, you cant just stroll around just because you are a national reservist, to give a mandatory analogy.

They "should" perform a KWS and engage any Wanted Player.
But lacking the proper equipment (just like in V1.1 through V1.3), they actually do nothing after the Interdiction.
Reportedly, we even occasionally see System Defense Forces Ship relentlessly trying to Interdict - albeit they lack the FSDI, so they're just buzzing around like flies around the Player in SC. Just like in old times...

You could be smuggling drugs or Alcohol. Slaves in a no slave zone.
So the military who are fighting a current war in the system are also carrying out civilian duties usually carried out by authority ships, like checking for contraband. That doesn't make sense.
More likely they're checking for weapons, the sort of thing that increases unrest in a system.
And shoot you if you have recently helped the enemie side...
I dont get it how you can help the enemie and they dont care
