Benefits of Federation Rank

So, I’m grinding my up the Federation ranks as I want to get a Corvette, and then continue clawing my way up the chain. Currently I’m 18% through Post Commander.

Apart from various ships, permits and the authority to yell at more and more people as you climb the promotion ladder, what other benefits to the higher ranks give you? Does it affect the type of missions you’re offered?

After making to the various required ranks, I bought the Corvette and then the Cutter. But if your not into combat, then there both a waste of time. The Vetted moves at a snails pace, the cutter has a realy big issue with drift. IF ones desire a larger ship than the Python, the conda doesn't require any Naval grinding and though it drifts a bit simular to the Cutter does when using thrusters, it is faster than a Vette and has better jump range than both the Vette and the Cutter combined. I personally do a considerable amount of planetary dockings and the drifting sucks. So, I've resorted back to a Phthon. One for general purpose's and one for bounty hunting noods when I get around to it. And one for exploring the great unknown. I know my remarks will be contested in regards to the Vette and Cutter, but they will only come combative style players.

To me Rank 12 is the stopping point since 13 and 14 does nothing. Now the Corvette is worth it for combat. It's a shield and hull tank when engineer right and it may have lower potential DPS than the Anaconda BUT the Corvette is leagues better in the maneuverability department. Now the Cutter looks amazing and has untouchable cargo capacity.

Now at the end of the day the rank grind is unbelievably grindy and a bad design and isn't worth the time wasted since you can buy a Fer-Da-lance, engineer it to hell and crap on any ship in the game of pilots of same or lower skill.

I was lead to believe the top ranks stop the reputation decay but I'm fine at Duke/Rear Admiral.

It's great ignoring all those donation missions now!
It's like I got promoted.

I am also an Admiral and a little perk which is very much overlooked is that you get to wear a Starfleet Admirals uniform. (Trekkie for life!) I have already ironed mine and will wear it as soon as I purchase my first Corvette. And dont forget to start barking orders at everyone lol. Warp factor 9 Mr Sulu!

o7 Commanders.

Uh, wha, were does one gets them, or are they the same as the free Conda at Hutton?

You should have been given one upon receiving your orders to report to Star Fleet Command to be promoted. Admiral Pike handed mine over before the promotion ceremony. Failing that you can always get one made to Starfleet Regulation. :D

Ok, now I get it. Last time there, I got in a heated debate with Spock. In regards to his starting the "Time Out" form of raising children vs the "Spare the rod, spoil the child" idealogy back in the mid 1960's. Though it wasn't actualy him but his Great Great Great etc. etc. etc. Grandfather's.

While i've virtually no rank with either of the factions (or the Alliance from that matter, who are at least supposed to get an exclusive ship called the Chieftain eventually), so it'll be a LONG time before i have to worry about a benefits of the higher ranks, but i'd say while the top ranks give you nothing right now, who's to say they won't in the future?... :) .

Maybe they're the ranks you'll need to eventually buy capital ships and maybe the factions will start selling exclusive weapons or add other benefits for, which require the top ranks (or any rank :) ) at some point, so if you can get to higher ranks now, you might as well, so you get whatever additional rewards instantly, in the future... :) .

In particular, aside from their combat roles, the Cutter and Corvette carry the most cargo in the game (right now), in particular those wanting to get into the top reward tiers or contribute the most in trade CGs use them exclusively (if they've got the credits and ranks for them, generally the top tiered players are always flying Cutters) :) ...

(The Cutter carries a maximum 792 units of cargo, while the Corvette carries 616, vs the 468 and 532 the Anaconda and Type 9 respectfully carry... :) .

Is that in real life or just in the game?... :) .

It would be nice if there were little perks of rank, such as jumping the queue when waiting for docking permission at busy ports. When I was in the Navy (real life Navy, that is - 24 years service) I would quickly stand up if an admiral walked into the room. But if an ensign walked into the room I’d barely move my head in a nod. :D

My FAS has something to say about this.

My FAS has something to say about this.

My FAS is engineered to the teeth with nothing but Frag canons. It's a for fun build that'll delete most ships but all the Federal ships besides the Vette have mediocre shields. The FDL boasts good shields, armor and best in game armor hardness with maneuverability not too far behind the FAS so it's just outright a better choice for a good pilot who doesn't want to do the rank grind.

There's also the fact the FDL has 4 medium hardpoints which means you can run all the experimental effects you ever wanted all at the same time, and still have the huge hardpoint available for doing actual damage.
