Benefits of using the DC with voice attack.

I use voice attack all the time, i find it adds to immersion and i don't have to bother with the keyboard too much, as i have a joystick with quite a good number of buttons.
i have heard many comments on here regarding dislike of the docking computer, i have used that quite a lot as well.
but a few days ago i decided to use that slot for something else, and sold my DK.
Since then my Python has been destroyed twice, both times in stations, and yes i can dock myself quite easily, that's not the problem.
The first time was i was delayed entering the station because i was scanning some ships, so i left it a while before entering, you have around 9 mins anyway, so no rush i thought. Wrong, with 3 mins left i entered and i could not find my pad, the lights had gone out, and i ran out of time, could not get out quick enough. 3,340,000 cr insurance.
Second time, during my descent to my pad, my voice attack decided to cancel my docking request on it's own, before i could stop it, i had 10 seconds to get out, i got blown up a few km from the station. Another 3,400,000 cr insurance claim.

So i bought my DC back,.
1. it finds the pad even when lights are out.
2. DC locks out any other commands while in use, so my VA can't activate anything.
3. 99% reliable for me, but i always watch it happen, never leave it to dock while you put the kettle on.
6 Million cr lesson learned.

So it's only useful when you make a mistake?

sorry got confused then when you say DK you mean DC (Docking Computer). When you say DK I was thinking you're taking about the DK2 VR headset. :D

One tip .... if you can't find your pad because those landing lights are off (silly bug) then just follow your compas (top-left of radar) - once in the station it points to the pad.

And if you see the numbers but they go out, it's still a valid pad to land at, so keep going.

ya i knew that, but still only gives you an idea of the direction the pad is.

actualy it tells you EXACTLY where the pad is.. If the dot is Full and on your right/left, then the pad is still ahead on the right/left.. roll your ship until the cot lines up with the BOTTOM line of the reticle.. that will mean you are in the right "line" of docks.. as you move towards the back of the station, the dot will move down the line.. once it gets to the bottom of the line it will turn from solid to hollow.. the moment that happens, you are directly over your pad.

Once you get used to this, you dont even rely on the numbers anymore.. unless i see the number while i happen to be coming through the mailslot, i dont even bother looking anymore.

Well.. ish. If the compass is centered, it's the pad that's directly in front of you. That's reasonably specific, though it's still an annoying bug.
