Best approach pattern for Rescue Ship Cornwallis?

Hiii -- do any pilots have helpful experience they could share about the best way to come in on approach to Rescue Ship Cornwallis? Specifically, with regards to a convergence of factors that make incoming difficult: the planetary ring, the gravity well, etc. I've been thinking that what makes sense is to angle your approach to one side or another of the actual ship so that you can burn away distance while postponing having to encounter the planetary ring and then once you are close enough, hitting J to let flight assist take care of the rest. However, perhaps because I'm thrown off course by the gravity issues, I haven't consistently been able to make that work for me.

Anyone here have consistently smooth approaches to Cornwallis? Would you share with us how you do it? :>

All I do is in super cruise to stay away from planets and aim a bit off the destination if I have to for keeping that distance so it doesn't slow me down to a crawl. Should the destination be obscured then I simply use the SCO drive boost to shoot past the planet and then go for the approach. When leaving the rescue ship and going to super cruise I do the same thing if I cannot instantly jump to the next system.

Generally lining up with the compass point from drop in; string of planets horizontal to the right, single planet high on the left.
Approach the ring from below and turn in towards the Cornwallis so you're perpendicular to the ring.
If you SCO past reverse the planets alignment.
Main thing is to keep the single planet above, so you approach the ring from below.
If the Cornwallis is in eclipse use NV.

Is your issue approaching a station inside a ring in general, or is there something unique about the position of the Cornwallis?

It sounds like the OP is approaching parallel to the ring, possibly from the far side which will tend to knock you out of supercruise.

There is a significant gravity well being experienced. I find you want to minimise the time spent in it. So think about an approach that is direct in to the station from outside the well rather than orbiting down like a penny at the fair.

You can try the Supercruise Assist (SCA).

Firstly you select the station (here Cornwallis) in the Nav Panel, toggle the SCA and then approach the planet as usual - with 100% Throttle (ignoring the SA-messages) and then 75% Throttle at the 6..7 seconds countdown timer (SCA now turns on).

Approach the planet ring perpendicularly, no matter which ring side from. If the timer moves above 7 seconds, throttle 100% and then again 75%, till you reach 6..7 seconds again.

When the Cornwallis only 3-4 ls away (can be more or less, depend on the stellar body close by), throttle now to 100% until the countdown timer shows 5 (five) seconds. This causes the overspeed, normally you cannot slow down before the station anymore.

Now throttle to 50%!

The SCA is activated now and leads you with the overspeed to the Cornwallis, ignoring the planet ring. If all runs well, the SCA drops you automatically in a 9 km to the station - within seconds.

With a little practice you can later save your time not only at Cornwallis station. :)
