Hardware & Technical Best / Cheapest Gfx Card!?

Im sick of playing ED on "LOW", i want to experience it how it should be played, On "HIGH" ..
Funds are a little low at the mo, so what is the best gfx card + system i can get where i get to put ED on "HIGH"
but being the lowest price!?
I would love a super gaming machine, but we are talking £1500 + ...

Cheers!

Yeah, ive seen the GTX 970 but its expensive..
Ive got a 2011 iMac at the mo, with a crap AMD Radeon HD 6700 in it .. it struggles on LOW!
but, i love my mac i dont really want to get rid cos it does what i bought it for .. ( write apps ) ..
its just a crap gaming machine.. so im just after a cheap gaming machine .. (if theres such a thing!) ..

There isn't a "huge" difference between high and low. Sure, there's some, and it looks great but, low settings look pretty good for "low" IMO. Just sayin'.

GTX970 is popular but, AMD has dropped prices and has some great "bang for your buck" deals right now.

If we knew your budget it'd be easier to recommend a card.

It doesnt matter about my budget, i just wanted to know the best lowend gfx card which will play ED on HIGH.. :)

This one needs a 6-pin PCI-E connector on your power supply but it's way more powerful than anything else at the price of £105.

If you don't have a 6-pin PCI-E connector on your power supply, get something like this.

I run it with an i3 processor and a msi radeon r9 270 all settings are on high except models which is on ultra and it runs at a constant 60fps limited by my tv. Total build was just under £450. It runs really slick and looks great.

I've seen second hand GTX 780's go for £135 with some manufacturers warranty left (just got to be a member of the right forums). ati290's have dropped considerably in price etc. For me a stop gap card would be a 290 or a 780 but being a nvidia fan boy I went with the 780. Also what Cpu etc are you running at the moment?

Still haven't played Elite yet though :D

I generally only upgrade my system about once every 5 years, so I don't keep up too much with what is the best value until it comes to upgrade time.
However, when I'm checking things out I tend to take a peek at the TR system guide. Gives suggestions at various price points. They release a new guide every season. May be worth checking out:

Cheers for the reply @Adoredtv .. im guessing that will run ED on HIGH.?

Yes it's basically the same as my own and it runs on max settings without any issues. I've updated the info in my post though as it needs a 6-pin connector.

The 750 I linked is a bit slower but should be able to maintain high settings at a reasonable frame-rate. I'd go with that or the 750 Ti if you don't have the 6-pin, but if you do have the 6-pin then the R9 270 is by far the faster at the price range.

Isn't the GTX 750ti a good and cheap card? I'm pretty sure it does not even require a power supply connection, just plug it into the slot and you're set.

Around £80-£100 I believe, with 2GB of video ram and very respectable performance.

It's the best card you can buy for the low-end power supply yes but on performance/£ it gets beaten up by the R9 270, so long as you have the 6-pin power connector.

Spec below 5 year old PC and run mostly High settings with fps 40 average.

I have an Asus GeForce GTX 760 2GB. I think its good for a cheaper card if you prefer nvidia like I do.
Can run this at 1080 high setting ok.
