Engineers best choise for increased FSD range?

hi guys, i have a question: how do i get the best possible jump range out of my anaconda? i am sitting here at Farseer and doing a grade 4 modification on the FSD range, but what shall i mostly look for, max Fuel per Jump or Optimised mass for max range?

Optimised mass is king, also gd5...

To give a little more context, Optimised Mass will give you a linear increase to jump range. Get +10% to it and you'll get +10% jump range. Max Fuel per Jump, however, won't go so far. For an Anaconda, +10% Max Fuel per Jump will give you something like +2.4% to your jump range.

Also, Nerwan is right to draw attention to Lightweight sensors. They are so important for an Anaconda.

Reference: this link, though the values it comes out with aren't exact as far as I can see.

The missing mats are pretty easy to find....Data Mined wake exceptions are found by wake scanning high energy wakes in distribution centers in "most " systems in famine

Chemical Manipulators are found in USS's the easiest ones are "Combat Aftermath " or occasionally High Grade emissions data USS ...

Arsenic however is a right pain in the exhaust

Seriously, you need to do G5 the difference is huge .

As a side story, I was using my clipper to do mat collecting, until I lost it ...ouch..so I bought a DBx and took it to farseer , when A rated and kitted out its stock jump range was 32 lyr , and struggled on module power at 106% with everything deployed. So I went to Deciat and just needed 3 G5 rolls to get it to 48 ly . It truly is a hidden gem...so agile and multi role in a mini kind of way . It now boasts +18% re enforced shields and G3 dirty drive tuning on the engines, it's quick+ 450 .I got 10% overcharge on the power plant which now means I have spare capacity .

My point in this, if you're going to do engineering, do it to the full potential you owe it to your ship and you....yes it's a pain but it works

As others have already said...

I would focus on getting to a Grade 5 since that really makes a difference in total range.

Optimized Mass is what you want to pay attention to most. I would suggest buying at least TWO 6A FSDs and shipping the other one over to Farseer before you start doing your upgrades. This way you can maximize your best rolls and swap out one that looks pretty good. Keep going if you have the mats with the other one, and be able to keep the best one of the bunch. Personally, I went with (4) and wound up with a real beauty in the end!

I rely on the FUNCTION TAB on your right cockpit panel to see what changes are being made to your max and current jump range. Now that commodities are no longer required this is much more accurate because you are not losing cargo weight during the process.

My Conda has one of the best over spec OMs in the game. My max jump range without a weapons load out is 62.4LY. :D Great for exploring and stuff, but I generally run that ship with a full weapons compliment and settle for the 45Ly range I use for Passenger Missions.

Hey Bookmite!

Are you absolutely sure that a system in Famine makes a difference in the availability of Datamined Wake Exceptions? I'm looking for some now in my home system and am finding them incredibly rare. This was never a problem in this same system before this last update.

(Just bought a Dolphin and the 4A I had in storage was only a Grade 4 Range Upgrade)

Just wanted to find out how you learned about a Famine System having more of these, and the logic behind why they would.

Cheers! :D

P.S. Really good advice there for the OP! :)

thank you so much for the info! love it! i will deffinitly try to do that, at the moment i do not hve the resources for a grade 5 mod, but i am getting them. sadly i have been hit by a bug that won't let the pop-up window describe how i can get the things show up. so i need to wait untill that is fixed. sometime....

It's not that systems in Famine spawn Datamined Wake Exceptions any more often. The chance per wake scan is still the same. The difference is that Distribution Centres (a type of Point of Interest) spawn wave upon wave of quite a lot of Sidewinders, who quickly zip off, leaving a lot of high wakes to scan. It's pure quantity, not about Datamined Wake Exceptions being more prevalent in Famine systems.

When I’m modding the FSD (or thrusters), I go to E:D Shipyard and set up the intended loadout. Then I open another tab with the same loadout (it’s encoded in the URL). After every roll, I click the module’s Engineering icon and enter the values as they came out in E:D, then compare the two tabs to see whether the range will get better or worse if I accept the mod.

For grade 5 Increased FSD Range modification you need:
  • Datamined Wake Exceptions — as others said, equip a frame shift wake scanner, then hang around some high-traffic spot scanning the wakes;
  • Chemical Manipulators — as others have suggested, patrol shipping lanes in supercruise looking for Combat Aftermath USSs;
  • Arsenic — see https://eddb.io/body to find arsenic-rich bodies (hint: don’t bother with less than 2.5%); when you get there, just drive around in an SRV looking for rocks to blow up. (In my experience in 2.2, mesosiderites give the best yield of arsenic; the wave scanner signal to look for is a single line at the very bottom.)
