Best. Distress call. Ever. !! (or was it a bug??)

I love the distress calls... wave after wave of Pirate wings... and although most are the same, sometimes a surprise ship is in distress, such as a Federal Corvette, which makes for an epic backdrop. So seeing one on the way to the Haz Res in Varati, I couldn't resist.

Jumped into it, and I couldn't really work out the ship in distress. Looked like it was a diamondback explorer when I locked on, but the background was weird. For a moment I thought it was a capital ship. Then as the battle unfolded the awesome truth revealed itself...

All I'd like to know is, what the hell was a half shell of a star port doing 20,000ls in deep space?? (And why are the lights still on.. [haha])

I assume this was working as intended... but a few odd things happened like being able to fly through the walls. Certainly was a memorable distress call, even though I didn't manage to finish off the Anaconda at the end, and had to jump away with 30% hull :)

You can safely assume that it was a bug/glitch etc. That happens time to time for some people. I have seen it couple times on some CG systems. Someone had his own planet following him around for couple hours.

Bug or not, it was pretty damn cool having a shoot out in the remains of a station.

Just a bit odd watching the NPCs shooting at it though :D

I'd really like to know what in the code causes this. I've seen this in different threads several times. It's not like I'd understand the coding, I'm just curious as to why this occurs.

That's way they say not to feed stray planets

I think you're only supposed to avoid feeding them after 12pm Galactic Standard Time, there was a whole documentary on it a few millenia ago as I recall. Something about them turning into voracious Chevy Novas or something. I forget the details.

Was this the scenario where you get three waves of pirates attacking a DBX? That's a pretty good one, although it would be better if the DBX actually acknowledged your presence in any way!

p.s. the half a station was a glitch.

"Now you will witness the power of this fully operational space station."

Seem to remember hearing something like that somewhere once.....

That is definitely a bug, but a damn epic one. I would love to see something like that. Is the laser in one of the screenshots coming from the station or from the attacker?

The laser fire is from the Pirates. They appeared to be attacking it. Although there was a stranded DBX in there somewhere too!

Heh, cool bug.

I really wish these distress calls had a completion condition though. Endless waves of pirates just seems crazy, I'd vaslty prefer it if you killed the pirates that were attacking the guy, then he warped out and sent some credits, or a tip off, or gave you a mission to assasinate the pirate lord who sent his minions after him or something. Would be so much cooler that way.

As it is, it's a hazourdous nav beacon.... with a ship that says "help" in the middle instead of a nav beacon....

The ones I've attended have all had an ending. A rescue ship (Asp Explorer) even turned up in one of them. It didn't actually do any rescuing, but at least it showed up .

That is so cool, please please please can we have things like this by design, it lends itself so well to some great combat much like Cmdr Oogie Boogie's suggestion in having CQC assets in the main game for this reason.

Thanks for posting LuckyLuke, I for one hadn't seen that before.

If you hang around long enough the rescue ship will scoop up all the containers dropped during the battle and then wake out of there leaving the poor stranded ship :p
