Best ED night ever !

OK - I promise all the naysayers that I am not a fanboy. I criticise where it is right to criticise. Also, I have been an Elite player since '84.
So - to cut to the chase - I decided tonight to go and chase the bounties that I have earned with my KWS. After I did that I though "to hell with it" and carried on exploring. I have now decided to explore till I can find an unclaimed system and to get my name planted on something.
During my evening, I have had fights that made me realise that you now have to think when fighting. I have had fast explorations fuelled by the fact that the whole game seems faster since 1.1. In short, I have had fun !
Go on - fire away and tell me I am deluded and that it's all crap let's put it this way - I'll be back tomorrow for more !
I remember checking out the state of Elite back in 2004 and all the available info was years out of date and all said that there was hope that "Elite 4" would happen one day. At that point I gave up hope.
When ED was first kickstarted, I backed immediately as it was something I had waited 20+ years for.
Tonight is the first night that I can say I played Elite Dangerous and realised that this damned game is going to actually work.
Fire away naysayers - I won't hear your salvos as I will not be on the forums tomorrow - I will be in game finding my "system" :)

Anything in life can be easy or hard depending on where you set your goalposts and how well you play.

Im also an old player from 87 was my first encounter with elite and must say they have done a mighty good job in this, sure there could be things that I wish for, but
overall I would say that ED is a great game to me and I am ofc looking forward all the nice stuff they will add as time passes. :D

Yep, I find I can lose many hours just "following my nose" from one system/misadventure/disaster to another. ;)

As a personal aside,

To my mind, someone recounting an enjoyable play session here on the official ED forums should not feel they need to wrap their post in body armour!

"...I promise all the naysayers that I am not a fanboy..."

I don't think it's right that those who greatly enjoy their gameplay experience should feel like they need to apologise for saying so.

More power to ya, OP. You're most certainly not the only one having a good time in the ED galaxy.

Yes and FD needs to hear more of these types of posts. I'm so sick of reading all the moaning and negative posts that are not constructive. I know there are bugs, but that's all the are, bugs. It's software, that's the nature of the beast. All the people saying the game sucks should just move on to something else and let the rest of us enjoy this awesome game and help improve it where it has issues constructively.

Could not agree more. In all honesty I feel the most damaging thing at the forums comes from the incessant conjecture that we have 'fanboys' and 'whiners'. The entire premise built two opposing forces that have been going toe to toe on here even since when in reality all we have is fans with opposing opinions and refuse to share these half the time in place of drive-bying with 'fanboy' or 'whiner'. Can't we all just get along?

On topic again, sounds like you had a fun night OP and one of the things I've been thinking of doing for a while, just a spontaneous night of doing whatever, but last time I did that I spent all night hunting for a target to for a 5 minute fight. There were exciting moments in between but for the most part I was heading from spot to spot and checking names whilst keeping an eye on GALNET bounties to see if they moved on.

And no offense but this doesn't help either since you're trying to discourage anybody from having a criticism. Also FD do not benefit from such posts any more than criticism. To build a good product you need to pay equal attention to the praise and the criticism.

Yep, last night was my most fun night as well. In one sitting I had a couple great dogfights, leveled up in the Empire and looked at the systems with my name on them. Literally went to bed with a big dumb grin on my face

Quite exactly my thoughts, OP !

I have waited also from the 80's the real sequel and now it is here :)

I realized already at the end of last year that this will be the Game I will be playing for some time.

PS. +1 Rep to you :)

Last night I was afraid to take my Clipper out of dock since ships were exploding all over due to the collision bug.

So I bought a sidewinder and found out they screwed up the audio very badly.

So I logged.

I'm not sure why you think FD needs posts talking about how much fun you had. I had a LOT of fun early on, its the lack of depth that gets to people. Yesterdays bugs didn't help. Elite isn't an awful game, its just under featured right now. The newer you are to this kind of game, the longer it will take to get there for you.

I'll be honest. I almost threw in the towel a few days ago. I'm having fun with this now. The upgrade to 1.1 or is it 1.1.2? 1.2? I can't keep up... has been good. I haven't experienced any of the glitches people were complaining about. The textures look good.

Now I just want the ability to jump into a system next to planets instead of the star. Like in Star Wars. The Millennium Falcon didn't have to jump to Yavin's star... it just jumped close to Yavin IV!!! Gimme that!

Now about those thargoids... and planet landings... and more content... and human models.. and and and.. Frontier isn't off the hook yet. But the update is a positive sign.

While everybody has been cowering in the stations, I left with my Asp (carefully!) and headed for the Great Unknown. I took a sick day off work today (actually sick, but not too sick to play :)) and I'm in an area now boldly going where no one has gone before. :p I've found 3 Earthlike planets, many terraform candidates, and countless high-metal worlds in about 6 hours of play.

I'm having a blast!

Agree with all of the above.

Played 1.1.2 last night, had no issues bounty hunting for about 300k with the occasional collision not causing any problems.

The thermal and power draw , and updated shield cells all look like a great addition, not quite sure why folk are complaining!

Like many who are finding a way to have immense fun in this game, I don't have time to talk about it on the forum! Yesterday I think was my most fun day. I slapped down a pre-pubescent wanna be pirate, I check up on several system that a group of us have been trying to engineer regime change in and found that we have made substantial change to one, then I quickly traded up enough to cover the insurance 5x over in an A rated cobra and finally a group of us went an cooperatively fought in a Civil War, selecting Anacondas/Pythons and working together to take them out. I had to be dragged to bed and am back out since 5am this morning at it again!

Yes, I'm loving the AI improvements... and I've even fitted a shield cell bank to my Asp - shock, horror! ;) Gives me 2 cells for emergencies, as opposed to it being an invincibility spell against NPCs.

People are welcome to complain, don't get me wrong. There is, however, a point at which it becomes a hopping-up-and-down-angry-party. :p I saw one forum member railing against the new patch, then signing off with "I haven't tried it, but it's such a disaster I'm not even going to bother logging on tonight"! Wow, his experience was rooned, without even getting to have an experience...

I pointed another forum member at the "Update 1.1.0.2 Incoming" thread, as it had a developer comment relevant to the problem he'd had. I subsequently spotted that he had, in fact, posted his one problem to that self-same thread ELEVEN TIMES... after the developer comment in question! I don't know how anyone thinks it is okay to post one issue to a thread 11 times. And THEN create a new thread... about that same issue!

I'm quite happy reading the odd "I had fun" post. I just have to read each one 12 times to counter the machine-gun negativity blast, haha.

+1 OP, same here. Been waiting for this since '84.

And yesterday, due to a collision bug, I've left my heavy haulers in dock and just like you, went to exploring to claim "my world". Oh, was it fun! (only joybreaker were bunch of systems "found by Justin Bieber". Deeply disturbing :))

In the afternoon joined the Yembo project - great!

This is a great game!

I'm also of the 84 persuasion and am so grateful ED has come out before I died of old age. I find myself more risk adverse than with the original; we had escape pods, a station in every system and every sun was scoopable but this version is a monster of a game and hopefully will get even better and last a long time.
