Best evidence for next paid expansion in 2019?

Yes, I know, just wait until they announce it etc etc. I just can’t help myself though. So with that out of the way, what in your opinion is the most likely expansion we’re going to see in 2019? I think it’s reasonable to lean towards space legs (though I am not counting on it and wouldn’t really be that disappointed if it isn’t). The reasons are as follows:
- The duradrive personal computer CG (fully aware that there have been CGs that seemed like they would go somewhere and never did)
- The commander chronicles featuring the Krait of course. Just the amount of great animations throughout and the features of the flight chair that were in concept art.
- Cancellation of fleet carriers. At least in the delusional reality I live in it seems possible that the carriers were cancelled so they could implement additional features to them, eg atmo model or interior for space legs.
- Amount of all already created content such as the great character creator, the blockout of the cargo drones and character with a weapon (see space legs wiki) and the early 3D modeling of a pilot floating in the cockpit (see Elite Dangerous Wordpress blog thing).
- Sammarco has been quoted as saying voice acting would become an increasingly important feature with update 2 when we get the ability to walk around (we’re talking Kickstarter era I think). Definitely seems like voice acting has become a priority.
- Frontier referring to the next expansion as a “new era” leads me to believe it will be one of the big/most requested features.
-Lackluster multi crew and the fact that frontier hasn’t really done much to enhance the scope of the feature (ie can’t even use SRV)

There is likely more reasons to make the assumption I have. There is surely reasons that all of this just sounds reaching to an extreme. However, speculation is fun and I haven’t seen a thread really making an effort to determine what the next expansion is an any capacity beyond the whole “Zac said steps and leg=Legs confirmed”.

So throw in your best educated guess as to what the next expansion would be and detail why.

My money is on atmospheric planets and gas cloud harvesting in the gasgiants atmosphere.

Maybe some more NPCS all around in space stations and in / around surfacebases to make the galaxy more alive.

Legs? Nah, not yet..and if so, only in our ships.

Then we get some QoL changes again, some weapons, ships..

And the Alien narrative will continu .. Maybe even the discovery of Raxxla..

(This is pure speculation, i have no inside info)

Gas giant 'gameplay'.

My peronal wish would be a proper client server setup and no more boaring instances where conflicts happen or alines are fought...
but rather a real threatening invasion of the bubble thats making the galaxy actually dangerous and not limited to some USS

more alien races throughout the galaxy and things like raxxla etc to discover...

no walking no driving please - flying my ship>driving an srv>walking for whatever reason they come up with... already hate any miniute I have to spend driving to gather certain mats... let me do that with my spaceship!

Could definitely see that. I would hope they add in persistent NPCs with special missions etc. From my understanding Raxxla is already in the game from what the Devs have said. I would hope that means not in the locked zones. If so maybe someone will find it with the new exploration tools!

We need casino stations where we can go and play poker etc for credits and they need to bring cqc arena's at those stations where we can fight it out for cash prices or challenge another player for pink slips/deeds for ships or just credits.

We also need racing implemented at planetside stations for ship/srv and whatever else comes along again for pink slips or credits.

The entertainment from these things alone would make the game so much more fun.

For this to happen space legs would of course be needed for stations so I think the next big thing will be that.

They delayed the ice planets rework that got announced at Frontier Expo. I think it's pretty obvious that it's something even bigger than a cosmetic change. Something at the core of planetary generation or support for some major new gameplay on planets.

Fleet carriers delayed don't mean space legs at all in my opinion. Just that it's a difficult feature and they need more time with it.

That would super sweet. Braben had said way back in the beginning that you’d be able to steal other people’s ships but from my understanding one of the problems with multi crew SRV is that the game registers the SRV as a player ship so I’m not sure how that’ll work. It’s already my favorite game by a long shot so this would just be icing on the cake.

Dont forget the sh*t show that's been the last 4 years of updates. Frontier have a long way to go with the game before they can justify charging us for content again.

There was only one paid update in that time so at least as far as I’m concerned the only shortcoming so far is them not coming out with more expansions I can buy!

Based on the signs of Frontier's renewed investment and increase in staff for ED over the past year, I would hopefully guess they at least have seriously thought about spacelegs. My hope is that they are actually working on both spacelegs and atmospherics which will probably take another year or several more to arrive with new atmospherics first stage features probably getting into the game first. Meanwhile I don't mind if they still had ongoing teams working on the new scenarios /w more npc involvement and even more new ships to come.

My guess would be missions. We saw mission videos in beta 1.

Other guess is space legs or planetary landings. David B have good hints early this year in a live stream which seemingly stunned the community managers hosting the broadcast.

Yeah it definitely seems like the ice world concept we were shown was on another level terrain wise. Seemed like a system that could lead to plateau land formations and stuff like that. Would be very keen on seeing that in game

I'm looking forward to atmospheric landings & the new surface content potential that brings.

But I think if FDev just want to tick a box the quickest thing that could be released would be a moon permit. Blend real maps into the proc gen landscape, add half a dozen CQC-type bases and a few Apollo POIs for us to race/fight around and charge a tenner for it.

I’m extremely satisfied with Horizons and in my opinion if you get Elite you should also just buy Horizons. It’s fantastic. The moment that my game went from just space and stations to whole moons and planets it really felt much more rich and like a real galaxy. So the next update, regardless of what it is, I feel will bring the same level of experience.

The planets with atmosphere, fauna and flora would bring the oxygen and the light.

People like the visuals. We are humans. We need to feel the life around us.
