General / Off-Topic Best/Favourite TV Shows

I realise that considering something the 'best' is fairly subjective, particularly with TV shows but having just finished watching all 8 seasons of House (yes, I was about 3-4 years behind everybody else), I'm at a bit of a loss for what to start on next.

I'm mulling over watching Stranger Things on Netflix which has reviewed very well, and I like the 80's vibe it gives off, much like Super 8. But considering it's only a single season, it'll last about a week!

So, does anybody have any suggestions for great TV shows that have several series/seasons?

Thanks, guys!

Peep Show, Black Books, IT Crowd. This is my personal holy trinity of comedy shows. Doesn't get any better.
You Brits are so damn good at comedy, what can I say :)

I'm watching Arrested Development, again, on Netflix

Battlestar Gallactica is currently playing on Hulu (with commercials :( )

The new Star Trek show looks like a possibility but it is going behind the CBS All Access paywall (when I should be able to watch network TV using my Antenna, this is such bull). My pirate ship has been docked for years, but this gives me reason to set sail again...tsk tsk CBS

The Expanse was good after getting past the first episode, but that is on SyFy and cost me some money on Amazon to view it. If you have cable it can be viewed

Just finished Parks and Recreation again, on Netflix. Skip the first season.

I believe Falling Skies is on Amazon Prime. It was a fine show at the start, but it gets progressively worse and more campy. Watch it until it disgusts you :p

Ah, I absolutely love Black Books and Peep Show but IT Crowd is just genius. I may actually start it again!

Tried Arrested Development a couple of times but I think I need to try again. Sometimes - particularly with comedies - I need to be in the right frame of mind to really enjoy them. I also had high hopes for Falling Skies but it never quite took off the way I wanted it to.

Yeah, Arrested Development is definitely one of those where awkwardness is the point of most of the jokes. I like being awkward so it works for me, :D

On the drama side, I find Orphan Black enjoyable. The Americans (which I can't believe I missed before) is simply one of the best shows on TV, imo. Broadchurch was an intriguing mystery, though I'm not sure if that is available anywhere, right now.For campy enjoyment, I actually liked Limitless...but that was canned after 1 season.

I lost track of Orphan Black, although I really enjoyed the first 2 series. Thought the main character/s were excellent, and the actress (Tatiana something?) was superb. Ah, yes! The Americans, I've been meaning to give that a go for a while. I will definitely give it a watch this week - thanks for the reminder!

Depends on what kind of shows you like. My usual suspects: Fringe, Wonderfalls, Middleman, Firefly, Daredevil, Jessica Jones, The Man in the High Castle, Pushing Daisies, Chuck, B5, also currently enjoying Braindead.

Some good calls there. Loved Fringe and may go give it another watch. Some interesting suggestions there, thanks!

House of Cards is my favourite ATM ;)

Furthermore Game of Thrones, Black Lagoon and NCIS :)

Love GoT and House of Cards.

Never heard of Black Lagoon though, will have to look it up. Thanks!

Top 5......24 is my all time favourite, followed by the later BSG series, then Fear the Walking dead and The Walking dead then Suits (i'm on season 4), i love TV shows, a lot of greats don't even make my top 20 which is filled with Star Trek and Stargate shows. Here are a few honourable mentions that are either in or border my top 20: House of cards, Homeland, Fringe, Breaking bad, Game of thrones, Modern family, Lost, The Big bang theory, Hell on Wheels (not seen final season). Bonus mention for the Man in the high castle which has not been on long enough to get a number yet. Oh how can i forget Prison Break ? And The Unit (cancelled before it's time but borders my top 10).

One my all time favorites, partly cos I can identify with "the fixer" called Ash morgan, was Hustle...not the american version which was a copy of the original which ran fer 8 series and made by the BBC. If ye like british comedy and a smart and intelligent storyline, then check that out.

As an aside, I'm probably in the 5% of people on the planet who has never watched a single episode of GoT...which is ironic because they do quite a bit of the filming less than half an hour away from where I live. The vehicles used by the production team stops at my m8s burger van every morning fer sausage egg and bacon sodas...they say nothing like it is sold anywhere else in the UK ^^

Never watched Hustle but occasionally caught bits of episodes. Looked interesting.

I started Stranger Things a couple of nights ago, looks really good up to now. They've nailed the 80's vibe and the fact it's centered around a bunch of kids really gives it that authenticity, feels like Ste Spielberg had a hand in it!

Classics: Babylon 5, Farscape, Battlestar Galactica, Firefly, Twin Peaks, X-Files, Futurama

Recent: Game of Thrones, Fargo, Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul, Sherlock

The Wire. The best series ever, it was. Dark Matter is getting an honourable mention though, as well as The Expanse.

Does anyone remember the short TV show, 'The Searcher'?

In no particular order:

Game of Thrones - now that were done watching Arya sweep floors, can get back to the story

Vikings - Ragnar. 'nuff said

Walking Dead - I suspect only until a favorite character of mine gets killed off, then I wont care anymore.

Sherlock Holmes - The Cumberbatch one

Black Sails - Pirate drama. Gets better every season. Season 3 was brilliant - the fall of one legend, and rise of an even greater one. One of the best shows on now, IMO

Justified - Great show. Great writing. Great characters. Snappy dialogue. Timothy Olyphant, Walton Goggins were very good in this. Didn't overstay its welcome.

The Adventures of Brisco County Junior - The Bruce and Julius Carry, great team. Campy, fun. Before Lost, The Strain and Bates Motel, Carlton Cuse wrote this.

Hell on Wheels - The first two seasons were really good. After that, I think it lost sight of what it wanted to be. Still was a good watch though.

X-Files - The original series. Didn't give much for the movies or recent revival. Scully. What a dish she was.

.....and last but certainly not least

Deadwood - Masterful, nuanced performance by Ian McShane. You'll get many a quote to use around the watercooler from this one.
