Best fighter under 30 mil?

I wanted to know your thoughts on which is the best fighter under 30 mill. I now have the alliance chieftain and it's pretty good, is there any better fighter at this budget? Let me know.

Depends on your flying and fighting style. Some ships suit speed based guerilla tactics very nicely, but you need to be able to fly. The Courier, the Vulture, the FAS, all are every bit as competent as the Chieftain, just different. Learning to kick major butt with the courier is especially rewarding.

In my opinion, if you want to kill things fast, there isn't much better than a chieftain for the money you mention (you can't get a chieftain well equipped for 30m anyway, so I assume you already had that and it has nothing to do with the question). As a PvE combat ship, the next step up from the Chieftain is arguably the FDL, but it's a very acquired taste (off center cockpit, average pitch, made up for by amazing lateral and vertical thrust). Then the FGS for pure murdering and tanking power (best offense and defense simultaneously in the medium ships) then one of the big ones, Annie, Corvette, Cutter.

Is there something wrong with the viper?

No, the VM4 is epic, BUT, if you are still asking which combat ship is for what, you are not going to get much out of the VM4. I hope you see my reasoning and if anything that's a compliment to the VM4, it needs advanced setup and flying to be a great ship. I'm not a fan of the VM3 myself, just a little too basic (I see it like I look at google cardboard, as a Gear VR owner, lol), but I appreciate those that have love for it, I know it's a capable ship. It;s no courier though. ;)

Have to agree about the vulture. With engineering, even grade 3 Dirty Drives, it can become so agile, you almost can't aim lol. (xbox controller, mind). Viper III is nice, Viper IV is less more my speed. Pitch is crap, but vert thrust is absurd. Add in military slots, and it can hull tank like a boss. Even the DBS is brutal in its own right.
iCourier is one of my favorites, as it can outfit enhanced thrusters and the 4 utilities seriously boost versatility. Couple railguns and you got yourself a toy! Better if you listed your preferences for flight style, shield/hull tank, and weapon loadouts. o7

Vulture is a nigh indestructible little ship thanks to great agility and shields rivalling the Python in a much smaller frame. While firepower is lacking compared to the medium pad fighters, it should easily fit into the 30M budget and allow you to challenge pretty much anything.

FAS is very very similar to the chieftain. Slightly less shields, slightly better hull armour potential. Worse hardpoint layout, but smaller hitbox. Costs about the same fully outfitted. Not much point getting one if you already have the chief.

FGS is a fun ship, but not too practical compared to the other options IMO. It lacks mobility and doesn't have particularly more straight up tank than the FAS/Chief/FDL. What it does have is guns. Many, many guns. It can bring a lot of damage to the table and carry all the utility weapons you could possibly need, plus a fighter if you don't mind sacrificing some HP. I love it, but it's quite an expensive ship to outfit for the combat performance you can expect from it compared to other medium pad fighters.

FDL is more expensive, approaching 100MCr to fully outfit I believe. What you get is almost impenetrable shields, great speed, great firepower and strong manoeuvring thrusters, but a lower pitch/yaw rate than the FAS/Chief. Possibly the best pure combat ship in the game to my knowledge.

Chieftain has a dirty hardpoint layout, but...and don't tell anyone...I don't like its handling.

I must be the only one that doesn't, so ya can probably go ahead and enjoy the thing. I'd personally go with a dropship for this money, but yeah - I am really not on the common side of opinion on this. Chieftain and Vulture are both agile on the verge of OP and I like neither of their handling.

If the Op already has a Chieftain, I'd say he's not going to find anything better for the credits.

Pretty much what he said...at that level of credits, the chieftain is the muttz nutz. Id even go as far as saying its better than ships that are more expensive, and by the looks of todays patch, they may have addressed the one achilles heel feature it had...it was prone to losing the canopy and that has been fixed...hopefully. Although it wasnt a huge issue fer me, just a very occasional annoyance.

Fitted right and engineered, the chieftain just outshines anything else in the same price range and with 3 dedicated military slots, its intended use is quite clearly combat...a job it excels at ^
