Newcomer / Intro best game ever and best community ever please dont report me

who do i have to be very nice to to get alioth permit? been working for the alliance for 3 weeks now. still neutral. only taking alliance jobs out of 78um stations, still nothing. i get it that my time is worth nothing to braben, but its worth something to me, so rather than spend 3 more weeks fruitlessly trying is there a shortcut?

You have only been trying for 3 weeks?

Jokes aside, these 'invitations' come when your reputation increases with the minor factions that are loyal to the alliance. My guess would be that you would continue to increase rep with them, and eventually you will just get it.

Go out into the void. Get a boat load of exploration data and sell it to the faction you want a permit for. You'll be friendly with them in no time.

That's one option to help you on your way anyway.

Check the system map of Alioth, who's the leading faction there. Now, they certainly will have branches in neighbouring systems, too. Do missions for them, trade, bounty hunt, or, as Ulysses said, sell them the exploration data. Eventually they'll start to like you.

I don't see into things that happens up there, though, so I have no direct advises.

You also get positive rep for gunning down pirates in USSes - I made it to friendly with a faction in one night. The pirates don't like me very much though. They keep trying to kill me.

Alioth Independents who control Rominger in 78UM are who you need to work for. Get them allied to be offered the ticket to Alioth.
Shooting pirates in the multiple res' of Alcor and turning in at Rominger works as well.

I noted that it took ages to get them on side despite taking multiple rep gain missions at all opportunities. Far longer than the Eravate Indy Free or the entire Federation.

I'll give you a good tip.

Go out exploring for a session. Grab as much data as you can, go back and sell it the aforementioned starport and you will level it up very quickly.

I flew out yesterday afternoon and made it about 1000LY away but had to nip back because I saw I had picked up a fine (didn't want to come back with a bounty on my head with all my precious data). Flew back to what I am going to call my new home, sold my little bit of data I picked up from less than a days exploring, made 2M credits and became friendly all in one transaction...

I made it to friendly with 2 minor factions rares trading. They were at the 2 selling points in my loop. They just loved my tobacco products and fish skins and weird coffee. Took longer than an evening though. About a week for me but then I'm a very lazy pilot. I'll sit for an hour or so at a station browsing the net before moving onto the next leg.

This. Focus in the Alioth Independants. True for all the independent permits, find a faction with the systems name nearby, and grovel. The hard bit is getting them to give you ANY missions to begin with. If they dont have a station, and therefore have a very low level of influence, the number of missions will be very limited. Hunting at local Res and Nav is the best way to get them to give you missions, as they will still put out bounties. Once you make it to Friendly, then you should get plenty of missions.

three weeks of work for alioth should be enough for zoom ice lollies and page 3 girls in the passenger seat. if braben thinks its not worth an alioth permit he can keep his precious permit. and yeah i just tried the 1000ly explo with 2 full systems of FIRST! egotistical discoveries. still no permit. HEAR ME BRABEN KEEP YOUR PERMIT, ITS ONLY CONTENT I PAID FOR BUT I NEED TO BE x AWESOME TO SEE IT. no bull either. Syneufe KJ-B a54-1 and JO-B a54-O i was there... wasting my time... where was braben? counting the money.

Are you friendly with them yet?

I realise you've probably read this, but in case you haven't perhaps you can find understanding and solace in this guide:

You're doing the right thing - missions, pirate hunting, trading all to the alliance affiliate factions

Just keep at it and make sure you sacrifice a beer or two to the random number generator gods.. they get very thirsty sometimes, and by sacrifice I mean drink.
