best headset for ed

If you are feeling up to it I recommend trying to disable the applied spud setting.
https://www.reddit.com/r/oculus/comments/6tca7t/why_you_may_need_to_disable_spud_oled_mura/

Doing this for me has transformed the black levels and honestly present significantly less panel noise than what I get normally.
This of course varies with each rift since no panel are the same as another, and this goes double for oled.

Black levels for me is now proper black and I can for instance leave gamma at half instead of decreasing it as low as can go.

Thanks for the tip, the spud method has helped a little and i'm not seeing the banding now, but it has increased black smearing and the interior of my cutter still looks grey rather than the bright white it is on the Vive But think thats due to the Vive being 3 times brighter https://www.reddit.com/r/Vive/comments/4cesfu/confirmed_vive_screen_is_three_times_brighter/ and I don't think there's anyway to fix that.

+1 from me,
I too now have both headsets and in the Rift it just feels so dull brightness and contrast wise and has greyish blacks compared to the deep blacks and vivid colours in the Vive so much that I thought the rift was faulty at first, let alone the loss of FOV especially in the Vertical, It really isn't worth the small boost in pixel density and comfort the Rift offers. (Disclaimer I use the DAS on the Vive)

TBH I brought the Rift in the summer sale expecting to be impressed and have been left slightly underwhelmed i would say,
All of which means the Vive is still my go to headset for ED and racing sims too.

I did the same. I like it and use it, I'm glad I have it but if I'm going to settle in for a few hours gaming I'll use the Vive - I have the DAS, too, with a 100% cotton VRCover on it which makes it like wearing a pillow on your face. Like you, I immediately noticed the FOV and a couple other things. Both are great, both way better than looking at a screen, the rest is personal preference [and, lets be honest, simple economics followed by supporting the singular device owned]:)

I don't seem to get the speckled image that SPUD link shows, overall it's just more gray regarding that. I'll try it when I get home
