Best Headset & Mic for ED with Voice Attack

Hi Guys and Girls, what do you all use for Voice Attack?

I am using Logitech 430 set at the moment through my onboard SB sound card and i find myself triple repeating commands to VA to get it to respond and carry out the command. Mic is up full in windows, VA understands my command when it hears it, so i do not think it is a VA issue (Stand Corrected if proved wrong??)

Advice form longtime Cmdrs using VA, or other voice command software, MOST WELCOME!!

Kind Thanks

I use Sennheiser HD598 headphones and separately bought the ANTLION ModMic 4.0 microphone which attaches to the headphones. So the headphones are specialised audiophile quality by themselves, which you don't get with combined headphones and mic gear. And I find the ANTLION mic brilliant. In fact it is a little too good because I find with VA the mic picks up everything including a sigh, or a scrape on your shirt collar, or whatever and VA tries to make a word out of it and next thing you know the "up" command is sent or something. Plus, you have to be careful to make sure that there is a slight space before and after you voice a command or else VA will try to understand the whole thing and will fail. But you do get used to that. In any case, as to your original question, consider getting a good quality set of headphones (unless you already have a set) and then get the ANTLION ModMic boom mic as a separate item. Check out the reviews.

Thanx Cmdr, will look at this option :)

I use the sennheiser pc 363d.

Great headset really, plus I believe it's the only headset that sennheiser do that's 7.1. The mic is great for removing background noise too. Build quality is great. I have no complaints thus far.

I like that review because he tests the mic live.

Hope this helps

Look for headsets with noise cancelling omni directional microphones. ....

I've just found a set for as little as 13.99 on Amazon...

Hmmm... My own G430 worked just fine with VA, how odd.

The suggestions for the modmic are solid. Theres a few reviews for headsets to pair with it by teksyndicate on YouTube.

I got the Sennheiser U320 which I have found to be really nice quality (not specifically for VA but in general). USB version though, but there are similar ones others have mentioned already which are the usual audio plug type.

I don't know what my headset is (my son bought it)...but I do know that if the mike is not in the correct position I have to repeat myself several times. If it is in the right spot, the computer understands first time.

So play around with mike position.

Another thing I have noticed is that if I have a cold or blocked nose the bloody thing doesn't understand me...a slight change in my voice makes a big difference.

Mod Mic is definitely the way to go.

You can see them next to the second monitor

I bought Razer kraken headset and loved the sound quality. However, had issues of echo when talking to other cmdrs using voice comms :( Never managed to find out where the echo came from but have found that switching back to a really cheap basic headset the echo went away, at the cost of much reduced sound quality. On another tack, have stopped using voice attack because it is just so much more reliable to have all commands as key presses or on the HOTAS, and VA gets annoying if you are in a wing, other cmdrs do not want to hear all those extraneous voice commands, just gets confusing.
