Best medium ship for fighting Thargoids

So, I have a Dropship that is AX armed and engineered except for HR's, but have only fought Thargoid Scouts with mixed results (hull goes down pretty fast depending on how many are firing at me). I want to try taking on a large Thargoid vessel, but don't know what ship to use. Was considering trying a Challenger as an anti-Thargoid ship, with engineered HR's instead. Seems like a better choice. Yes? No? Any other suggestions?

Ah you fought scouts in a dropship? how did you find the 'Enormous' payouts in relation to your repairs, reloads and rebuy risk? :D

Sorry I always have to bag scout pay whenever I hear the name, medium ships can vary, I don't use them for anti-Thargoids myself, but if I had a choice the Krait would be the tope of my list, top 3 hardpoints are very close and great for heart snipes!

Challenger has good convergence too, but that thought never crossed my mind, and I have never owned a FDL after seeing it's internals...yuck. :D

FDL for me, used 4x AX MC turret + Huge MC gimbal eff/corrosive, worked like a charm.
Defences 2x SB, 4x PD (they can sometimes get the missiles, but running is better), 2x Hull Reinforcement for HPs.
Dont fly into their goo and overheat if your hull is infected.

You wont get rich but you'll be fighting for humanity !

overheat if your hull is infected.

Is that a thing?

I have little experience in fighting Thargoids for political reasons (I don't think we are seeing the big or true picture) but have taken out some of those rather aggressive scouts, since they attacked the Gnosis (there are limits to my neutrality). I lost a Krait however after learning the hard way not to fly through the debris cloud following a kill.

+1 for the Krait, it can comfortably take out Cyclopses. Cyclopsae. Cyclopsises? It can probably handle a Basilisk too, but I haven't managed it yet. Although that's more down to me needing to git gud and actually hit things with the flak cannon rather than an issue with the ship itself.

This is the build I'm using for Cyclops killing: https://s.orbis.zone/iwp. I didn't bother with the shutdown field neutraliser as you can just boost away with fa-off if you get the warning that it's being used, and your systems will be back online before the Cyclops can even catch up to you. This won't work with the other interceptors though as they're fast enough to keep you in range.

Krait.

Lol, yes. Even the time I took out 3 without taking that much damage, I lost money, but it was sort of fun to do, 4 times, anyway....

Yes, silent running burns the crud off, but it takes a long time and damages your internals, cuz you have to get the heat to 165% or something around there.

Overheat, or get away from the Thargoids enough that you can fire off a decontamination limpet that cleans off the gunk and repairs your hull somewhat.

This is interesting. I don't really have an iron in this fire as I don't really do AX combat. I do think about prepping a ship and having a go, though, and I am surprised nobody has suggested any of the new Lakon ships, Challenger etc. Were they not intended as AX ships?

Yes, they are pretty good as well but the best medium ships for fighting thargoids are the more expensive ones, the FDL and Krait.

The FdL with quad-gauss cannons is great fun for killing Scouts. I use the class-4 slot for a gimbaled beam laser with Thermal Vent to take the edge off. Just remember to only fire two gauss at a time, otherwise you’ll melt. I’ve seen many vids of players soloing Cyclopses with FdLs, but I’m too chicken to try.

As a side-note to others, if you don’t want to build a custom ship for the job, any decent engineered PvE combat ship will do against the Scouts. Just slap a Xeno scanner on and a decon limpet controller and you’re good to go. As others have said, the Krait is great in this capacity, but really any fighty ship will do.
