Ships Best Medium ship for Painite mining.

O7 Cmdrs.

I'm looking at expanding my mining activities. Deep core mining is already covered by an Asp Explorer. I'm happy with her considering i am still waiting to move to big ships.

As the title say, i'd like to build another miner, dedicated to painite miining.

The ship must be medium size. The budget should not be more that 120 millions ~
The build should perform well without engineering. I'm already engineering 2 ships and i would like to avoid a resource draught.
From what i read around a Phython looks like the most popular choice.
Is it the only way to go ? I'd prefer to have a little more visibility, if possible.

Thanks in advance for any suggestion and build :)

Python or either Krait (II for fighter bay, Phantom for running away) work fine. Keelback if you want to spend less money, but if you have a budget of 120 million, any of the former ships should be better.
I've used a python and one thing I noticed was that I was losing a lot of collector limpets when they were depositiing cargo. I don't know if it's a bug or a design flaw in the python, but might be something bearing in mind. When I get back to the bubble, I've got a Krait II I'm going to fit as a miner and see if it works better.

Last time I went core mining in a Python, I cashed in ~150 million in 59 minutes, so maybe you should reconsider the 120 million max. See it as an investment if you're planning on getting rich. If you mine for fun, most ships will do. If you're aiming to become a multibillionair then a T-10, T-9 or a Conda will maximize your profits.

Personally I've got enough credits, so I mine because it's relaxing bordering to meditation, and for that I use a Python. I can highly recommend that, and CR per hour wise it's very close to a big ship. You just need to go back and sell your cargo more often. Also consider the hardpoints. You don't need them, if you mine in Solo. You can run away easily, which was what I started doing. Then I learned how to shoot (I'm not good at it!), and since then I hope for pirates showing up, adding to the fun, and filling up my materials after I kill them.

If you really want to use a Python or a Krait, also consider engineering it. The thrusters first, then the FSD. It doesn't have to be top notch G5 with fancy experimental effects. A G1, G2 or G3 dirty drive mod, will make the ship a lot more maneuverable and it's "dirt cheap" with regards to materials.

Happy mining! :)

T9 sounds the best choice but from what i read escaping npc interdictions with it is a pain, doable but it takes ages.

Thanks for your advice :)

bigger belly = longer sessions = bigger payouts, if that's your thing. but any ship works for that. looks like you're going to spend some hours in that ship, choose one you like.

my 50c: best views are t6, keelback, both kraits (and the phantom's interior is even bearable) and mamba (i exclude the asp because you already mine in it and i can't stand it's engine's farting sounds). also: eagle gets my vote for best cockpit experience in the game, with honors.

Well the T9 is not a medium-pad ship.

Go Python, you won't regret it (every hangar should have one ;) ).

e.g: https://s.orbis.zone/4y-r (laser-mining only build under 86MCr)
I haven't used the T-9 much, but I've had plenty of fun mining in a T-10. Since most of us use EDDB before selling the goods, I don't think ship size matters that much, but I agree that the Python is "the best" core mining ship I have. For laser mining I'd probably take the Cutter, but I don't like the bright cockpit making it "difficult" to see the dark Universe outside the ship. I use VR so all the green house cockpits are great for mining, but the cockpit of the Python is dark and cozy. Exactly what you need for endless hours of blowing up rocks. Just remember to do a double 180 once in a while. Most of the juicy rocks spawn behind you, but that goes for the Lakon cockpits as well.

I find that for efficient mining I need four to five collector limpets per medium laser when positioning close to the asteroid, and max out with two medium lasers and nine collectors. This plus a Detailed Surface Scanner, a 3A or 2 1A Prospector Limpet Controller, a Refinery and a Shield Generator do not readily fit in mediums unless I sacrifice more cargo space. The Python comes closest to that from all the medium sized vessels while still having 192t cargo capacity left.
I switched quickly to a Type-9 Heavy for mining. With just 176Mcr without special armour it is in the medium price range, and medium pad is not an issue (you can also sell on planetary outposts). The 640t remaining cargo space and option to have a Fuel Scoop or Guardian Frame Shift Drive Booster and still 512t of cargo capacity left made it for me.
In the T9, A rated and long range engineered sensors plus dirty drag drives allowed me to evade pirates incoming after I got disconnected on several occasions and to get out of mass lock range of asteroid fields quickly enough to wake out in the more common case where I could not evade the pirates (they can drop in your instance quite closely). Oftentimes there were also more pirates immediately interdicting me in super cruise (I want to return to the hotspot to fill my cargo hold).
Fortunately I hardly loose the interdiction mini games against deadly NPC, even in a T9. But I have a HOTAS with twist for lateral thrust.
I switched to an Imperial Cutter for mining, don't have to worry about pirates any more and I can get much faster from asteroid to asteroid and to a station, too. But I sorely miss the T9's cockpit.

As long as you don't play in open, this python did me well. Just remember to submit to interdiction and low or high wake out. Everything gets better with engineering, but that's up to you. I ended up dropping one of the 6e cargo and putting in another controller, but that is also to taste. Hope you enjoy what ever you decide to buy and build!

If you have the rank then FDS makes a good medium miner. Here's mine - feel free to ignore the engineering.

80T cargo gives a decent profit and doesn't take ages to fill. 2 C2 lasers and 5 collectors are good for stripping a rock fairly quickly.
C2 beams and C3 multi give you a good chance against pirates (pve) while the armour isn't bad either.
And it's well within your budget :D

A T-9 is the only ship I have that makes the Anaconda feel peppy and maneuverable in super cruise and the only one that I have failed to escape an NPC interdiction in. Faster to submit, tank the shields and engines, and rabbit again.

I used a Krait Mk2, can get a good amount of cargo and nimble enough for getting round the asteroids and has the hardpoints for fighting off pirates.

I did find that the connection was dropping a lot while mining on Friday, was fine with other stuff. Tended to be when i deployed a new limpet - the Black Adder error message.
