Best Mission Runner Builds

To be able to successfully create a build specification for a mission runner ship, your configuration skills must be good enough to account for the number of variables and requirements for all the mission types, to come up with builds that can practically or nearly do it all. It would be interesting to see what clever configurations players are running for the different ship classes.

The mission runner ship choice to my mind comes down mostly to a good balance of optional internals and jump range, as it needs various modules to be of utility for multiple roles, and it needs to be able to get to its destinations quickly enough to be efficient. Factors like speed, maneuverability, defense, and firepower would be secondary.
With that considered, and with price not being a primary factor, I'd pick the following as the best mission runner ship choices from each size class.

Large
Anaconda

Medium
Python

Small
Dolphin

The Dolphin will have the least versatility due to it being the smallest, and won't be very suitable for many combat missions, having only two small hardpoints, whilst the Anaconda would be the most versatile except for the large landing pad requirement, making the Python possibly the sweet-spot choice. If price were more of a factor, the Beluga Liner is a good alternative for the large ship class, the Krait MKII for the medium class, and the Cobra MKIII for the small.

Post your builds and list all the mission types they can competently complete, and let's see which configurations work best.

If you use a completely different ship for your mission runner, post it anyway, and demonstrate why you think it's a contender.
Coriolis Ship Builder I think has the most readable layout for ship builds, but the others will still work.

For reference, the Mission Types are categorised as follows.
EDIT: Passenger missions are not listed under the Courier category in the Wiki for some reason, but should be included as a Courier type mission.

Here's my Python config.

It's capable of all general mission types, so qualifies as a mission runner and all-rounder.

Pros
It has hatchet and collector limpet controllers, along with an FSD interdictor and all relevant scanner types, so it's well geared for Assassination, Theft/Liberation, and Recovery type missions. It has an SRV for Surface Operations as well.
Decent jump range with fast refuel.

Cons
It only hauls 128t of cargo, so some Supply missions may get onerous, and it's not the best for combat, so massacre missions may be a challenge without some engineering.
Cannot do passenger missions.

Other than mission types, it's also good for independent piracy and bounty hunting, rare goods runs, and smuggling.

This Anaconda can do virtually every type of mission in the game, including passenger missions (but only luxury), and missions that require mining of any kind.

Not cheap at 485m credits, on a relative scale, putting aside that this amount can be made in a couple hours of mining.

This is may favorite mission runner ship, https://s.orbis.zone/8mup it runs well all misions and with some minor adjustmentes (change a scanner now and then) it is fit for all mision on any port... my personal smugling favorite, it runs fast and punch well

I like it. Some good compromises, and more of a focus on cargo capacity, which I think probably has one of the highest degrees of importance for mission running, due to the number and types of missions that will utilize it.

This is my mission runner Python LRV Celephais

Bi-weave shield for fast recharge, some hrps and a mrp, medium sized gFSD booster, collector limpet.
Two imphammers to reverski on those Condas coming after you, three multis to finish them off.
Powerplant is adequately sized to add two class6 rapid charge SCBs and two class 5 shield reinforcements to do some CZ work.
In duracell config I have a whoppy 5.200 mj of raw shield strength - with a bi-weave 🥳

Looks heavily combat focused, but doesn’t compromise too much on jump range. Though without any cargo capacity it will be locked out of a range of missions. So a focused combat mission runner rather than an all-rounder.

Ups sorry, change the SCBs and shield reinforcements to cargo racks.
Above config is just for CZs.

Edit

Now the collector limpet makes sense too.
Swap cargo racks to passenger cabins if needed.

Is there any reason to have that collector limpet module when there is no cargo rack to carry the limpets?

I only have one mission runner build. It's my fleet carrier. It has 36 ships onboard. Each ship is specifically equipped and engineered to do one particular mission type.

I'm thinking of changing its name to Swiss Army Knife. ;)

I've recently built a Krait Phantom for this purpose with 96t cargo capacity, 35ly jump range fully laden and boost speed over 500 m/s. It's got an SRV, shields are class 6 prismatic and it's armed with 2 large beam lasers and 2 packhound seeker missile racks. Works great for mission types up to threat 4.

Nice! Love the Python. I think your build is a bit overkill on the shields though, 6C not really needed for only PVE. Could also skip the guardian FSD booster for passenger cabins or more cargo. Nice!

I can't post a build at the moment, but i have a krait mk2 atm that can do everything except:
  • mining missions for actual mineables
  • wing assassinations
  • passenger missions
  • might be able to do megaships, but it would be a stretch

It can also do numerous scenario USS such as the repair ones, though refueling is still a lacking controller.
