General / Off-Topic Best movie scenes

Before this forum descends into political chaos let's talk about something else. So any cinephiles here? What scenes in movies have given you the most.... whatever you get out of movies?

The Fuzzy award for best action scene goes to Mad Max: Fury Road (spoilers follow).

Some REALLY impressive work here by George Miller. He set up this scene really well with the tension from earlier when they entered the canyon, and then the sudden rush as they escaped. But instead of just having a constant fight (a-La Michael "crap film" Bay) he slowly cooks things while still keeping the pace strong. We see Max and Furiosa both looking at the bikes closing in, preparing to fight, and we see the women in the back who are incapable of defending themselves, giving the rig a sense of vulnerability.

The Fuzzy award for emotional acting goes to Tom Hanks for Captain Phillips. Those who have seen the movie know what I'm talking about, if you haven't then DON'T CLICK THE SPOILER! Go watch it first!

I do not know how he managed that. I've never seen a more powerful depiction of a man in severe shock. He doesn't just start with the shock, but he really effectively breaks down right there. It made me cry like a big jessie, but I won't admit that on a public forum.

The Fuzzy Award for most awesome scene for a 6 year old Fuzzy to get thrilled about goes to Jaws.

"You're gonna need a bigger boat" - ad-libbed and just really bloody great.

The Fuzzy award for best death scene goes to Kareteci Kiz.

It's quite funny.

But if unintentional comedy isn't your thing then this from Moon worked for me.

If you've seen the movie you know what this guy has been through at this point, and it's a special sort of horrible.

Hard to slate Fury Road, that gets a solid thumbs up.

Award for most inspiring movie imo would go to Shawshank Redemtpion with the best one on one fight scene being the first time neo and morpheus face each other in the construct.

Award for the most surprisingly entertaining despite the slating from the critics go to guardians of the galaxy, while one of the best and most sadly missed opportunities in sci fi has to go to serenity/firefly

Award for most laugh out loud moments in recent memory goes to deadpool (bout time Ryan reynolds got a decent break)

I would award a Belfast story with something that had a very profound influence on attitudes here, but that's a story that anyone not from here just won't get, so that's a personal one fer me ^^

So many great movies to choose from but one scene that words could never to justice to was actually only a clip of a select audience viewing reactions to saving private ryan...the reactions of the veterans who saw the opening cips of the beach landings...no award could ever do that justice but it's one that deserves a mention on it's own. The first time I sat and watched it was like...if ye never seen it then do so...ye will know what I mean ^^

Ooooh, I can't resist a thread like this. A couple that spring immediately to mind ...

Most cinematographically poetic ...

From Terry Gilliam's Fisher King
The scene when traumatised teacher Parry follows his true love through the hustle and bustle of a rush hour grand central station.

Most tense space sequence ...

No time for caution.
The docking sequence from Interstellar.

Fisher King still a brilliant film.

Part1

Part2

One of the best intros to a film.

One of the most poignant and beautifully composed speeches.

And this is one of the funniest moment on film for me

And anything these two did has me in stitches.

Cutest racial slur in the history of cinematography:

Dunno how to link stuff so bear with me...also can't remember the exact name of the movie but it's that one with Woody Harrelson I think rolling the ball and his false hand goes with it still holding the ball...that made me laugh till it hurt ^^

Movies that made me cry more than once...Dances with wolves...the scene where accepts death and has no fear of it during his first battle scene. That bit moved me as did the point where the wolf was shot and left for dead, only to re appear near the end...I got a thing fer wolves ^^

One the best portrayal actors...As Good as it Gets with Jack Nicholson

One the best portrayals of the horrors of war...That's a tie between Platoon with it's more dynamic storyline and Full metal jacket which focuses more on the pointlessness of war and the brutality of basic training to make boys into soldiers ^^

Love and hate threads like this...love movies but too many to choose from ^^

That Indianapolis speech was incredible. I watched that as a little kid, and as a result I can't swim.

What do ya'all think of Martin Scorsese and his long takes? Look at this, no cuts or anything. I think it took them 8 attempts to get it.

Effective scene as well if you've seen that movie. She's experiencing the sort of clout he has for the first time and is starting to wonder what kind of person he is.

This one from Bob Hoskins is a great piece of silent "face acting"!

Some great choices coming out here, please remember though the clips need to keep to the forum rules.

A couple from Caddyshack;;

And another featuring the judge

Added spoiler tags

And one of my favourite Michael Caine lines from The Italian Job (none of the obvious ones - the response to "you must have shot a lot of tigers!?")

Awesome thread! I'll go with a couple of action scenes for my first submission:

Ip Man - 10 man fight scene. It's some impressive coordination and action, but it's the entire movie up to that point that makes the scene.

Man From Nowhere - Final fight scene. I couldn't find a version with good subtitles, but there's not a lot of dialogue anyway. The close capture button did seem to work.

Way of the Gun - Outside the club. It's not about winning... it's about sending a message.

I'm hoping this comes out ok, my work computers are a bit dated. I want to see this thread grow so I can get some new stuff to watch that I haven't "scene" before lol.

Wanted to put some Open Range and maybe a scene from Ravenous, but I'll keep them to 3 at a time.
