Best Planet Types For Vanadium Etc.

Following an encounter with a white dwarf yesterday evening, I have almost exhausted my stock of vanadium - jumponium to escape the system and three AFMU refills to repair the damaged modules.

Unfortunately didn't pack a Detail Surface Scanner before leaving and 14 kylies from the Bubble en route to Beagle Point a bit late to change that. So I can't check landable bodies in advance for likelihood of mats but vanadium is proving very, very elusive to find. Carbon, sulphur, iron and chromium to spare but not what I need.

So just wondered of the various planet types which is most likely to yield jumponium mats?

In some ways the event was quite interesting and almost an example of emergent/dynamic gameplay even running exploration in solo. One minute you're running express - honk, scoop, jump - and finding it a bit boring, next you're fighting for survival. I never realised nose cone boost does not differentiate between neutrons and white dwarves, of which the incident was my first encounter with the latter. Even with the orbital rings switched on and heading for the very tip of the plume I still got cooked. Fortunately the distance for the nose cone boost was within my jumponium boost limit, if not then it would have been seppoku time.

I'd suggest diverting to one of the Colonia connection ports and getting a DSS shipped to you. There is a line of repair/refuel ports from the Bubble to Colonia.

Edit - Ah bollox, sorry thought you where heading to Colonia. Beagle point without a DSS? I checked my deep space Vanadium book marks (6% or higher) Can't see any pattern so unable to suggest a planet type.

Yeah, kind of dumb I know but for all its attributes the AspX is short of a module slot or two for everything you need, so the DSS got triaged out. I'm on the eastern rim so Colonia is probably further away than the Bubble at this point, though I will take a look later.

Unfortunately don't have any Vanadium bookmarks in that part of the galaxy. Try the explorer sub forum, someone is bound to have book marked some planets in your region.

You might get lucky.. https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showt...Rich-Systems-for-The-Galactic-Mapping-Project

This map seems good - https://www.edsm.net/en/galactic-mapping#3/40/0/20400|jumponiumRichSystem

Head for HMC or MR. It's a common material so once on a metallic surface it shouldn't take more than a couple minutes to find some.

Heading that way ... yes, you're probably quickest returning to the bubble, *but* Rohini or Gandharvi might be more convenient to reach for continuing on to Beagle rather than starting over.

From my memories of prospecting before the DSS reported minerals anyway... (not scientific, just my instincts from having driven a lot of SRVs on mineral searches back then)
- Vanadium/Chromium/Manganese/Zinc tend to be very common inner-system elements. Find a metal-rich world (or perhaps a HMC if you're also short on Sulphur/Phosphorous) and start looking
- Germanium/Selenium are more likely outer-system. You may have better luck on an icy moon.
- Arsenic/Zirconium are just rarer in general. Not sure if there's anywhere particularly good to look, though Zirconium I think tends to inner-system as well and Arsenic outer-system.

The rarer minerals ... I never really got much sense of a pattern to them, though Niobium again I would go for inner-system planets.

I hope you find those materials.

I've learnt early not to trust white dwarfs after a deadly drop into one of them while still in the bubble. The jet cone is just too short and the low fsd boost compared to neutrons make it not worth the effort and sometimes sweat imho.

Appreciate the replies, CMDR's.

Just checked the GalMap and Colonia or the Highway is way too far from the Viatori Patuit so I will press on towards Penguin's Reach, checking the planet types stated as I go. May turn off nose cone boost for a bit too so I'm not using any AFMU resources on the FSD. More jumps for sure, but plays the safety shot and of course more landable planets to check out.

Grie Prao LH-E b59-1 isn't too far from you, has everything you need. Greou Ploe KF-L d9-46 is also in your region.

Quick update, the two systems above are around 18 and 22 kylies from my current position and north of the Penguin. So heading in that direction but stopping to check out landable planets where possible. Ironically, that will give me a better exploration return than honk, scoop, jump... assuming I survive of course!

As chance would have it, picked a rock which yielded several mesoridites with vanadium so able to replenish the stock. Also caught a fantastic view of the edge of the galaxy with the "ribbon" on one side and the complete black on the other.

Nevertheless this is a very challenging area of space to fly through, stars are few and far between and even (for now) having solved my material shortage I cruised into a fuel star system on fumes and encountering several more white dwarves where I needed to use jumponium to move on to the next system.

NB: If the mods feel this thread would sit better in the Exploration section please move, albeit nice to relate some positive emergent gameplay amidst the staple diet of DD! :) I am, to some extent, writing my own adventure here without the need for pre-scripted quests or missions. It could all still end in a fiery ball and the rebuy screen but if anyone feels ED is becoming boring or exploration is for wussies, set course for the extreme eastern rim of the galaxy then try to head north!
