Powerplay Best power for a trader?

I am mostly interested in trading for now, so which power do you think has the best bonuses, systems, for a more fun and profitable trading experience?

She has the best commodity, as in slaves, right? I'm not that much into slave trading. I might join her once I start mining again though.

Trading or Smuggling?

Its hard to find better trading routes than those in the Kumo Crew territories.
You may also get attacked all the time :)

I might trade there once I get the Cutter in that case, but I have a lot of work to do before buying that :)

The best legal routes are in the Torval/Aisling borders and you don't even need to be pledged to either of them to make use of them because they are made from their passive bonuses to the systems and not the rating bonuses to the commander.

And then there's smuggling for Delaine.

Very interesting, Apos, thank you. On my way to the Torval/Aisling borders then. I thought that maybe Mahon was a good power to go to, since it has the trade voucher (20%?) at rating 2. But its emphasis on agricultural goods doesn't seem so profitable.

Our bonuses don't even properly work to make our space more profitable, but even if they did, they still don't reach the default profit value of Palladium trading from Torval to Aisling. So the 20% only applies to non-modified profits.

However, Mahon is the best power for miners as long as we stay in the #1-3 spots. Torval makes metals cheaper so it's counterproductive for miners and Aisling breaks even when we are at #3.

I'm obviously a bit biased, but...

Torval and Mahon are the two Trade Powers. Both offer Trade Bonds and increased Rare Commodity profits. In my opinion, Agricultural goods do not make very good profits, while (noting your aversion to Indentured Servitude) Imperial Slaves are arguably THE most profitable commodity available outside of Rares. Also, as noted above, the most profitable trade routes are often based out of Torval space. Of course, these are passive bonuses available to all whether they pledge or not. Pledging allows us to keep Torval in Power, therefor allowing all of our galactic community to reap these benefits. Which again are some of the most lucrative trading routes you can find.

Also, consider the player base. Mahon has a very large player base, which helps keep them at the top of the Rankings. And they are a well-oiled machine. Torval has a very small, one of the smallest even, player bases. Which I happen to enjoy, as we are a tight knit community where each member can have a say in the weekly strategies if they choose to do so. And we have kept Torval just as competitive as the more populous Powers.

Check out the recent Recruitment Memo from Parratich:

Also, check both sub-reddit links in the stickies above for Torval and Mahon. If you choose to go with Torval, there is a thread there from JemyM inviting you to join the Strategy discussions.

P.S. As @Apos pointed out, Mining is counterproductive if you are selling in Torval systems due to the mentioned discount. However, as a Trader, this allows you to purchase cheaper Mined Materials for possible trade routes, which are the second most profitable commodities after Imperial Slaves.

But like I said, I'm a little biased!

Thanks for your suggestion, SCSkunk. I think for now I will follow Apos's suggestion, and go to Torval/Aisling borders, since it sounds profitable. My problem with Torval is the huge emphasis on slaves, so I can imagine that if I want to make a profit in her space, that's what I need to trade. But its not something I am eager to do. And if Mahon's bonuses are bugged, that's not a choice either for now.

Aisling Duval's special module (as it were) is the Prismatic Shield Generator. Whilst heavy and power-hungry which detracts from its usefulness in a combat ship, it is of use in a trade ship. Effectively giving shield strength equivalent to an A-grade from the module size above, it can free up a larger module space for cargo. I use them in my Imperial Clipper which keeps the Class 6 and 7 bays available for cargo, and Asp (a Class 3) so I have a 64 ton cargo bay and Class 5 fuel scoop.

Buying Palladium, Gold and other high value mined materials in Torval territory and selling in another power's territory is also a good trading route. Of course nothing beats the imperial slaves in terms of profit. As SCSkunk said, the two trading powers are Torval and Mahon. We at Torval are indeed a tight and friendly bunch, and I believe everybody who decides to pledge will have a fantastic time with the Torvalians. As we are almost always near the profitable trade routes in Torval's system, you'll have a good chance of finding wingmates and escorts for your trading activities. Feel free to check out our recruitment thread or subreddit for more info.

See you around, CMDR!
