Ships Best PvE ship

Hello everyone just returned to the game on PS4, and before I took a break I pimped out the imperial cutter which is definitely one of my fav ships, but the friends I play with we often join in the civil wars with wing missions. And the cutter has great shield capabilities. But it obviously is not as fast or turns as good as most ships, I want to buy a new shop that is fast, turns well, has good defensive and offensive capabilities and can jump to other systems quite well too. But that isn't a big ship like the big 3.

Any info or advice will help and it will be appreciated. I really look forward to trying a new ship. Thank you to anybody that can help me

Krait M2 should be quite close to best - it has a nice assortment of hardpoints, the PP and PD to power those hardpoints and, quite important for someone who is not a master at PIP management, it can perma boost with only 2 PIPS in ENG (of course, assuming it it engineered)
Not at last, it can also use a SLF

A really great thing about Kait MK2, Phantom, and Python is you can swap the modules between them. So you can try all three with good power plant, distributor, and thrusters to get a good feel for the cockpit and handling. Then sell off the the ships you don't like. As long as you strip the ship before selling it you won't lose any credits.

Just don't engineer the hull armor until you know you are keeping the ship.

Imperial Courier.... if you like going really fast while looking really good (and at least the slaves tidied the wires properly behind the panels).

Or spending lots of time to engineer a ship through many compromises to make it do something well that others would do just as well with hardly any effort.... but you'll still be going faster than them and look better.

(There is no best ship)

The best PvE ship doesn't fit all of those criteria because it's slow and jumps poorly. However, Krait MkII and probably the new Python MkII will fit this bill well enough.

I was thinking about the krait mark 2 it has 3 large hard points and isn't too expensive, I wasn't sure how manueverable it was though
Compared to an iCutter, even a T-9 is maneuverable...

That said - what level of engineering can you apply to the thrusters on that Krait Mk.II? I find that, for me, who is far from being an ace pilot, a Krait Mk.II is agile enough to make good use of Pacifiers (fixed large powerplay shotguns) on the upper hardpoints against most other ships. For those pesky small ships that can outmaneuver me, the two gimballed medium guns (laser or MCs) on the lower hardpoints can take them down before they do serious damage to my shields.

Krait MKII if you want something that can do anything. It's a bit sluggish off-boost, but the firepower is great.

Krait Phantom if you want to outrun every other medium ship except Mamba. Still good firepower and can make use of power-hungry weapons. Nimble in the blue zone, especially under boost. Decent shield tank when using Guardian reinforcements, decent hull tank if you use lots of HRP-s.

Chieftain is one of the nimblest mediums with no need for boosting. Decent jumprange of around 30 ly with the v1 FSD. Very versatile hardpoint compliment with many, many viable loadouts. Decent internals for a combat ship: you can have class 6 shield, class 5 cargo rack and another class 4 slot for limpets, SRV-s, fuel scoop or something else.

The best PvE ship is the one that you enjoy flying and fighting with. Nobody else can tell you what you enjoy.

If you have access to Cytoscramblers then I'd go Chieftain every time. It's like getting Large-equivalent firepower from your Small hardpoints. Two efficient ones is 60+ anti-shield DPS all by themselves, so you can go heavier on anti-hull or anti-module elsewhere.

Agree with the Krait sluggishness. Kraits strike me as the squishy Wizards of the galaxy. Vast DPS and a familiar (SLF) that does damage for you, but your defenses are never as strong as they seem, and even the Phantom seems pokey unless you're staunchly in the blue. You see this in installation defense scenarios. They hurt bad if they hit you, but once their shields are down they crumple like paper. Plus, the offset large hardpoints are set far enough back that gimbaled lasers can be blocked by your own hull if your target is below your eyeline, and that's always bothered me.

Chieftains are the Rogues. If they're behind you, and most of the time they will be, you're dead. If they're in front of you, then something has gone very wrong and they're dead.
