IN YOUR OPINION (I realize a lot of it will be opinion vs stats) what is the best pvp ship, and why? I'd like to think the big guys, but they are just so slow that quick smaller ships can turn circles around them, at least the cutter. This INCLUDES having your optimum engineer's upgrades. Don't forget to say why!

I'm thinking that it's the FDL with modified thrusters to make it boost. I'd like to say the vulture, but I almost kinda like the clipper better due to it having more guns. But idk how the FAS stands up; it is super agile but has crappy shields.

Cheers for a good discussion on your opinions

No, not even small ships can circle around big ships. Also, you have turrets available.

Voted for my Annie. B-rated engines and full armor, full armor mods = super heavy, yet no problems shooting gimballed multicannons.

I'm kind of new to PvP [noob] but I like the fact the Cutter seems to be able to pick and choose fights, unless I'm mistaken there probably isn't a lot you can do to prevent a Cutter leaving a battle on account of it shields, speed and mass. Interested to hear the opinions of others though...

A wing. Don't care what it is or what you're in, the thing I'm most wary of (and often lacking) is a wing (with lots of engineering).

FDL is king at the moment, even more since 2.1.

Cutter is also very good and the Corvette but since Feedback Cascades they are meh wingfights.

As much as I love by VIV dive bomber, the FDL is objectively the strongest PvP ship in the game, right now.

With RNGineer, you cannot says which ship is best.

Assume all ships are engineered with their optimal build. And yes you can kind of say which one will win, or at least force the other to flee by controlling ground through domination or kiting.

I voted for Python. Its stronger than FDL in my opinion. More shields (with scb), more hull, better capacitor, better firepower, a bit slower and agile, but Palin can fix that.

Exactly what i think. Python is better in combat than FdL. Fits my style perfectly.

Although... I voted for the FAS, got one a few days back and having a blast with it :)

I picked sidewinder becasue it's fun! And you can lose a few and not be bothered and it really makes you work hard in a fight. Or perhaps a hauler :D

FDL, always will be.
It is pretty clear that the FDL is the go-to ship for serious PvPers. Answers like the above don't really expand on the "why" though. I suspect that is because "everyone just knows why" without the need to expand on it. It's got lots of hardpoints and utility slots, atleast compared with other ships in the same range. Still, there has to be some downsides to it (e.g. manoeuvrability) that makes it "beatable" by others.
I have never flown an FDL myself, but from the videos I see, FDLs are all about "jousting". Boost turn, fly towards target, boost turn, fly towards target, rinse and repeat until the one with the best guns and/or FA OFF turns wins. It's not exactly an exciting fight imho, with the lack of multiple manoeuvres to outsmart your enemy, etc. It is however the current "meta" and probably will be for some time.
What I would like to hear though, is a breakdown on why different ships are good and/or bad at PvP. Personally I prefer the Vulture, because I like how it flies. It "only" has two Large Hardpoints, and not as many utility slots, but the whole point of that ship is to stay outside the weapons envelope of your adversary. To me, that's more challenging and more fun.
I guess it's still "FDL FTW" though :)

Logically, if all are engineered to there best, the statistics come out the same as the base ships would do.

Therefore: bang for your buck, states Vulture, vying for the top spot with the FDL. For me, the Cobra, I understand it, love it and not to bothered about loosing it.

Crimson is of course 1000% correct.

In 2.1 / 2.2 combat, the best PvP ship is the one able to retain shield for longest. The FdL has the highest base shield modifier of all medium ships and the most utilities for shield boosters (together with speed, manoeuvrability and five hardpoints including a huge one).

The 'big three' are currently 'critically endangered' by reason of the feedback cascade rail. I have not flown one since 2.1 for this reason. For the first time, they are no longer supreme 1v1.

For more detailed reasons for the FdL's current absolute dominance of endgame PvP, see this thread about the ships...

Thanks for that. Interesting read about the lack of diversity in PvP ships. Frak Meta though, I am still going for my Vulture ;)

Vulture is still a bit meta :p. At some point I think I'll mod mine up. Too many on the list though. Gotta finish doing up my anaconda and that will still take a while, depending on the will of the rng gods.
