best ship before Python is ASP

ASP is the best ship in ED at this moment, great for fight, around 100T cargo, very nice ship , everything is smooth it s gliding , very fast, just replaced Type 7 for ASP and it s like i m playing new game , Type 7 is the worst crap i ever owned

I concur, it also has incredible engine noise, good view, the cockpit looks a bit basic though, a bit chewed. I only have 92 T of cargo but this is outweighed by combat power. The hardpoints are in an excellent location.

Absolutely agreed! The new Lakon Asp Explorer is a beautiful ship, and definitely has the sweet spot for medium multi-role, despite being ostensibly an exploration-based frame.

Borrowed from the older Asp MkII, the hardpoint setup is beautiful with excellent convergence; the engines sound like a growly biplane; it can turn pretty damn well and you can fit great shields, too. Thanks to the design's new manufacturer, the cockpit visibility is extremely good—classic Lakon. Perhaps a little industrial but roomy and comfortable enough for long journeys—and the jump range is great.

It serves quite admirably as a combat, trading or exploration role, depending on how you outfit it, and balances these very well. There's a reason it's currently the second most popular ship amongst Commanders, next to the Faulcon deLacy Cobra MkIII! I'm flying one myself: the Black Butterfly's a beaut, and I've barely started modifying her.

I'd love to see the Krait or Mamba make a comeback, but who knows if any manufacturer will have success fitting the frame-shift drive to that old crate. I miss seeing them around, it's just not quite right without boiling a few hapless newbie pirates in their sharksteeth Kraits, but who'd fly a ship without a Frame-Shift Drive in 3301? — CMDR Alyssa Rowan

The clipper is the next best ship after the Asp. Its only real down side is that it cant land on outposts but then very little can after the asp.

I love my Asp. The "UI" is tough, packs a punch, has the range and cargo capacity to trade rares or normal goods quite nicely. And it's a smart white colour too!

I will still take my Cobra or Viper over the Asp, while they have slightly less firepower (two less small points) their ability to engage and disengage at will as well as their handling make them superior fighters. If you get interdicted by a Python while flying an Asp, your chances of escape are miniscule in comparison to that of the Viper or Cobra.

Yes, asp is best ship, but between asp and python is Clipper.

It's a shame for combat Asp players that their ship is a huge space-pancake that's almost impossible to miss shots on, but besides that, yeah it's an awesome ship for its size and cost.

I love my ASP. I love trading in it. Just bought a 2nd one and decked it out for fighting.. its a lot of fun, but the repair bill can be huge if you take hull dmg.

Surely the Asp can boost away? I know mine tops out at 390m/s boost which afaik is faster than a Python.

ASP can escape from python fire without any problems. Python has 380 on boost at now, with A6 16mln thrusters.
Almost everything can easly escape from python at now.

I still don't know why people type "ASP" instead of "Asp", but go to the trouble of doing it correctly for all other ship classes :)
