Ships Best ship for exploring (asp or diamondback)?

So I want to go to the center of the Milky Way or to some nebula. What is the best ship, asp or diamondback explorer. Are those good ships too explore? is there something better that isn't expensive like an anaconda?

The Asp Explorer is the best exploration ship. The only one that can jump further and have more equipment is the Anaconda, with an outfitting worth several hundred millions.

The Asp's jumprange is in the same ballpark as the DBX, but is has more internals to equip repair kits or whatever you want to bring with you, and more importantly you can equip a bigger fuel scoop. With the best fuel scoop, you can refuel entirely in 36 seconds, compared to 1min33s in the DBX, which makes a tremendous dfference when you have to refuel all the time during an exploration trip.

I pretty much agree with Zephy, but I explore every planet in a system, so scooping isn't as big a deal for me. The DBX does have on major advantage over every ship in-game, and that's the fact that she is one frosty ship. I've never had to use an AMU exploring in her, even when I did make a few exploring bobo's. If you want to get to the center in a hurry, the AspX is the way to go. If you're on a budget and want to get some serious exploring done, go with the DBX.

Thanks both of you! yeah, I'm on a budget. but I think if I spend more time rare loot trading, and doing missions for far away colony's I can afford an ASPX. The big fuel scoop is a major plus, and yes I'll have more slots for repair kits. So thanks! :D

Overall the Asp is probably the better ship, but I still prefer the DB Explorer myself. Mainly because the cooling/heat management on that thing is so good that I can max out the fuel scoop rate, dive even further into the star's atmosphere, and just park there for hours, never exceeding 70% heat. Visiting the innermost planet to Betelgeuse can easily be done without worrying about heat for instance, while the Asp usually melts before getting that far (mine did). Two other reasons why I prefer it is the fact that it's 1/4 the price of an Asp, and that I think it looks a lot better than an Asp.

I agree on the looks, I own a DBX because I think it's a pretty cool ship (also I like the animation when the landing gear deploys), on the other hand I find the Asp very ugly and for that reason am very reluctant to own one. Sadly it is the best multipurpose in it's price category on top of its great jump range, so it's hard to avoid it even if you don't like it :)

The answer to your actual question wholly relies on how much do you want to spend.

Both ships are excellent for what you require, but obviously the ASP will perform better, but it will also cost a lot more to do so in it.

That is not to say you cannot also look to other ships to do what you wish also. Many have used the Cobra and the T6 to explore in and found them just as good as a dedicated explorer ship.

If money is no objective of course then it is hard to not shout out for the Anaconda from what I have read (never had one so could not personally say as I am not that rich in credits yet)

I just own the DBX and haven't flown the Asp yet. I did get an idea about the latter's outfitting potential though by trying out different loadouts.

It seems that if a light and inexpensive setup is used on both ships, the Asp doesn't outperform the DBX much. The real game changer though is the fact that the Asp has 2 extra slots and more importantly, it can house a 5 class AFMU and a 6 class Fuel Scoop. This means that more fuel tanks can be added, and the FS's superior scoop rate can compensate for the time the large volume requires to be refilled.

So yeah, the Asp in practice does go further faster and can be maintenanced better. The DBX though is no push over either, and it comes at a lower price :) Personally, I like it's looks better as well.

Asp. No contest. Explorer, Trader, Hunter all.

Asp Pros:
Great range
Good heat management
good thrusters
good agility
good armour
good shields
good cargo capacity
great module capacity
Great cockpit view
Good in a fight properly fitted
relatively well priced when A specced/fitted

Asp Cons:
Sounds like a farting hippo

DBE Pros:
Cheap
Good range
Good heat management

DBE Cons:
Poor module capacity
poor shields
poor armour
poor agility
poor cargo capacity
poor in a fight even properly fitted for one
looks like a school bus
awful thrusters
Yellow

Before you ask, yes I have flown both, a lot.

Hmm.. maybe I'll go for the ASP. The extra slots would be great. I haven't been a big explorer(barley got surveyor), but I am looking forward to travelling to some nebula, and one day the center of the milky way. My big goal is to have a ship for each major activity - a ship for combat, one for exploration, etc.

So ASP it is! :) thanks!

I personally don't mind the looks of the asp, it honestly looks more like a ship I'd expect to see roaming the cosmos, where the DB is more stylized. As for the sounds... eh it's been a while since I've flown one, but I know I've had a good impression of all the ship sounds thus far in the game.

i would prefer exploring in the diamondback, huge fan of that ship, but atm im stuck in my T-6. not alot of starports where i am on my first little trip around the cosmos (Kelin Samba to HIP 5100 then to Lave hopefully before the exploration thing is over)

I go for short trips 1-3 or 4 ly out with my Cobra....but I would use an asp for trips further out.
