Best ship for pvp

I know this question would of been asked alot but what would you guys say the best ship for PvP is I'm going to start playing open more and try my hand at pvp

For cheapness and practice, I'd say Viper III/IV. It lets you learn while not bankrupting you. Lol

Otherwise, the FDL.
or Corvette, if you're loaded.

This is coming from someone who doesn't do PvP. Lol

Given that ive engaged more Engineered FDL's in this situation than any other ship i would argue that this is the popular choice.

Fer-de-lance, and will assumedly be for some time.

Current environment favours use of railguns on your loadout.

If you have any specific questions fire away. There would be at least a decent wall of text to explain the meta fully, but answering OP I guess the FDL could be summed up as "six utility slots under a decent base shield on a ship with strong speed, reasonable agility, a relatively good hit profile and a beautifully versatile set of hardpoints".

Its only real weakness is a lack of internal slots, though its shields/6 utility slots really help make up for the lost HRP bulk.

I'll always recommend the iCourier as a learning ship ;) Very similar to the viper with inordinately stronger shields.

Probably the FDL, but the main three would be FDL, FAS, and Clipper.

Small ships like the Viper or DBS are ok, but you will die a lot and quick. I'd avoid the Cutter, Corvette or Anaconda. Properly built you most likely will not die, but those ships attract a lot of attention.

GCI has a couple helpful docs:

Joining a PVP discord for advice is a good idea. I'm in GCI, but Galactic Academy is probably good as well.

Also flying in a wing is also a good idea. If you are by yourself you will get combat with wings.

I find it's not a case of which ship is the best as I only fly one therefore the Cobra MkIII is the greatest PvP ship in the universe.

Oh, and if you do start getting into PVP I hope you like engineering. Because this is where the grind gets real.

You can take a stock ship out there, but you will not last long. Even "ok" engineered pve ships aren't really that competitive. You'll do better, but most of the people you run into will probably have been grinding on engineers for a while.

No one has said Vulture yet? Really? I'd say FDL and FAS ARE beast, but both are quirky ships too.

The FDL has its flight model to contend with, not a problem for everyone but not everyone's bag either. The FAS has some rough shields (prismatics help and it does have the power to run em), but handles more like a Super Vulture. Either way its a 6mil-ish rebuy on the FAS and the FDL more like 7.5mil.

A Vulture in total beast mode would be a 1.95 mil rebuy and that little thing can take a beating and still be fast enough to outrun the big ships.

As already recommended I love the iCourier because it is nuts to fly when engineered, if you run across a Phasing Sequence build though you'll want to bail and not even mess with it.

I'm about to build a PVP FDL, could you give me your thoughts on this? I was thinking of doing 6 heavy boosters, reinforced prismatic shield, thermal reactive armor, two sturdy feedback cascade rails (size 2) and 3 efficient plasma Accelerators - two with target lock breaker and one dispersal (the size4). Is that a good general purpose PVP FDL? Only issue is it seems a build this heavy takes away about 30 m/s speed, and needs a ton of power so it might run hot...

Probably go with Long Range on the rails and make one a penetrator. For secondary effect you want heat reduction which can go up to 50% (30% is good), but you have to do a lot of rolls. Doing it at grade 4 isn't that bad. Grade 5 if you are a masochist.

I'd run either all resistance augmented augmented or 3 heavy and 3 augmented and a reinforced shield
