Best ships for Odyssey

I've really been enjoying using my Cobra Mk IV for surface missions. It's small enough to land in places bigger ships can't, has enough hardpoints that having advanced dumbfires to clean up ground forces doesn't feel like a loss, has all the internals I need for the "salvage expert / repairman" vibe I'm going for, and perhaps best of all; it doesn't feel ostentatious. The handling is great for the work I'm doing as well. It's agile enough, but not twitchy. It's deliberate - goes where I tell it to, and no further. I genuinely like it.

I've also recently been trying out the Crusader, and am really liking it as well, for similar reasons. Decent enough internals, whole mess of hardpoints, solid and deliberate handling, and just looks and feels appropriate.

What have you all been flying, aside from all the Orange Sidewinders and Mauve Adders?

Same the Cobra is great for Odyssey.

To be fair, about all the ships will do. You just need a shield, decent range, and the ability to slot dumb fired missiles. Smaller the better, to land, and the ability to have 1-2srv is a must.

I'm using the DBX myself, but that's mostly because I had one around I didn't use.

I've been using my Diamondback Explorer so far. I haven't really had the frames to feel confident actively going out looking for fights yet, so I've been sticking more to transport and salvage type stuff for now, relying on auto-landing a fair bit. The DBX will perch on pretty much anything with enough space to get an SRV in and out, and because of the Thunderbirds theme I've got going with my ship, it's bright yellow which makes it nice and easy to keep track of.

Haven't tried any air-to-surface pew pews yet though, so I'm toying with switching out for my Cobra for that, or maybe a Vulture (since that's what the combat zone dropships are). Maybe an FDS or FGS, so that I've got an excuse to loudly hum the Airwolf theme tune while I'm shooting folks? 🤔

I started Odyssey with DBX, one of my fav ships in the game... but... found it folds to fast with base defenses

Needed something still fast.... that could carry 4 SRV... 3 crew... very maneuverable ... good fire power and defense and a great view... that ended up being the Krait MK 2

I haven't had to deal with base defences much yet. I've only been fired upon twice: the first was because I accidentally pressed the wrong button, threw a grenade at the wall in front of me, and got killed before I even made it back to my ship; the second I managed an arm-flailing feat of aerial prowess that got my into the DBX and up in the air while the guards were still yelling about reinforcements.

I'll probably end up with a Krait eventually - I'm guessing the cockpit position and weapon placement is nice and handy for ground stuff - it just feels a bit eh as a choice for me personally. It's like getting an Anaconda, I'm sure I will eventually, I'm just enjoying the nicheness and variety in the meanwhile.

(Also I die a little inside if I go for more than a couple of hours without being sat inside a Lakon)

If you are a combat pilot, especially PvP fa off there is only one ship:

The Most Holy and Glorious Fer de Lance.

She is a joy to fly and the weapon loadout possibilities and convergence is So Sweet.

This game favors shield tanks. Guess who the most powerful and maneuverable combat shield tank is?

:)

I have 6 fully engineered grade 5 FDLs. I know of an extremely talented pilot with 17 fully engineered FDLs.

I experience severe withdrawal symptoms if I am in any other cockpit.

When I upgraded to Odyssey I was flying passengers in a Beluga Liner, and it got really monotonous walking the whole lenght of the ship to visit a station. So far all this is doing is adding more usless grinding time. It sucks that I have to take into account just the walk from my ship just to enter a station.

I've been using a Cobra III so far but the shields are a bit weak vs base defenses. Gonna fire up coriolis to see if a Curier will give me beefy enough shields or if I need to go up to a Krait MkII.

I'm looking for advanced missile racks (or flechettes) and good shields plus decent jump range and SRV space.

Not the best ship but currently enjoying my retrofitted Imp Eagle. Originally build this one as a racer but soon after moved on to a Viper so the Eagle has been accumulating dust ever since. One advantage is the location of the two small hardpoints wich sit directly next to each other and now host light weight Adv dumbfires. Both impact almost the same spot so after the first volley there's usually not much left that could shoot back 😈
Keeping overall weight down still allows for a boost speed of 700 m/s which makes for a fast getaway in case of "Biowaste, meet fan" but as a result it's practically made of paper. And for the first time ever I feel an actual need for a spare SRV, so I'll likely have to move on again. Maybe to my bubble taxi Dolphin which hasn't seen much daylight either since Carriers became a thing 🙂
