Best single graphics device for VR? (August 2017)

1080Ti is ludicrously good and will pump out mental frame rates on anything upwards of a G3258 or i3.

edit I assume you've got an SSD btw. The difference having your OS on a SSD makes is beyond count.

This actually drives me slightly mad these days... We have an office of about 20-30 staff, and slowly converting them to laptops. An i3 is plenty, but finding an i3 *with* an SSD, instead of a 500GB or 1TB spinning drive is a headache beyond what should be reasonable. Then, on top of that, they won't honour the warranty if I swap out the HDD with an SSD... *bangs head*

It's almost like "Hey look, see how fast the i7 is compared to the i3? Oh no, it has nothing to do with the SSD at all..."

Z...

^This. I am having a blast with Elite in VR on the 1080ti. It was a massive leap in performance and quality, coming from a GTX970.
If i was asked to recommend, i would totally repeat Zeeman here.

Ive been looking to get msn gtx 1080ti lightening z.

I'm seeing good performance reviews for this card, its smashing the AMD vega 64... I'm seeing it for 990.00 pounds

Get it! that card is seriously worth it.
Got one after a lot of research.
Elite runs like a dream and the image quality in vr is good.

I have a founders 1080, bought on release day for a grand! It is in a PC that is turned on 24/7, I'm terribly lazy with driver updates (it is currently two behind), I play mostly Elite, but also loads of other triple A titles. It has a single shroud fan on the graphics card, stock Founders configuration (Corsair closed loop liquid on the CPU), and there is no air conditioning in the room where I play, I was playing in 50C (122F) on some days this year (I live in the Northern suburbs of Athens, and yes, I was sweating all over my peripherals, what are ya gonna do? Stop playing Elite cos its hot? No way!), and I have never had so much as a glitch. It heats my room real good after a few hours of Elite, but no issues at all. Windows 10 home on an Intel 4790K by the way. To be honest, I haven't had a nvidia card related glitch (let alone crash or anything, not even an artifact) now for many, MANY years (prior cards were a 970GTX and an 860GTX, similarly not so much as an on screen artifact) in a crazily high temp environment. Don't have any suggestions for you, just saying it's not normal to experience crashes because of your nvidia cards.
A crap PSU will do the trick. Every. Single. Time.

I am considering a VR set, but have only one eye. Can anyone that has a headset let me know if it looks playable with one eye shut?

Hi, I have a more powerfull right eye and a lazy left eye. I get 80% on right eye and 20% on left eye. I have little to no problems in VR. If you can guess things IRL in 3d then you shouldn`t have any problems in VR. If you know someone who has it close to you , why not ask them if you can test it out ?

I`m using MSI GTX 970`s (4GB) Twin Frozr Editions and have no problems with ED in the Oculous Rift. Mind you i am using a AMD Ryzen 1700 @ stock clock.
