Best Starting Ship?

Hi everyone!

I wanted to get your thoughts on which freebie ship you picked (Eagle or Cobra) and why you picked that one! I've never played an Elite game before. I hope to get to a point where I'm making most of my money through bounties and fighting but understand that I'll also need to build up some cash first. Which of these two ships would be a better choice for me? I have the choice between an Eagle, a stock cobra with some cargo, or a Cobra upgraded with weapons and a scanner.

I'm pretty new to the game but it seems to me that a good starting ship is going to be able to do something you enjoy (e.g. combat/exploration/trading) reasonably well whilst being cheap to earn up the cost you will need to insurance your hull and modules. Thus I will be sticking with the stock Sidewinder for a while and then I'll probably try out the Eagle. If a Cobra is a potential freeby for you, I'd probably pick that over an Eagle but I'd fly my Sidewinder to begin with.

I'm running around in a dinky Hauler making credits whilst I start to plan out my trip the the other side of the galaxy. Thinking an Asp kitted for jump rang will be the ticket but still unsure, but it's certainly been fun thus far ding trade runs and actually killing a few bounty hunters in my hauler.
