Best Superiority Ship/s, so far?

Hey guys,

There has been many discussions about "Best PVP Ship", "All-time rounder", etc. But since the Engineers update, are those ships still as good as what they were before?

Also, I did some digging into both the FDL and Python (which I have tried both, along with disappointment). Here is what I have noted:

FDL (Pros):
- Huge Hardpoint.
- Very Fast.
- Feared by players.
- Shields are A-okay.

FDL (Cons):
- Low Maneuverability.
- Weird placement of C4 Hardpoint.
- Extremely Low Fuel.
- LY distance is kind-of bad. (But tolerable)

Python (Pros):
- Stores lots of cargo than a Type-9.
- Lots of Fuel.
- 3 large hardpoints.

Python (Cons):
- Terrible Cargo Scoop placement.
- Sometimes not-feared by players.
- Low Maneuverability.

Are these ships (or one of these ships) still the best towards Pure combat situations? Or could it be that an Imperial Courier or another ship might have a better advantage? What do you guys think? :)

Pvp ship ???
Why the hell do you want cargo, fuel, Ly jump range ?

This should be your pro / cons for pvp :

FDL (Pros):
- Huge Hardpoint.
- Very Fast.
- Feared by players.
- Shields are A-okay.

FDL (Cons):
- Low Maneuverability.
- Weird placement of C4 Hardpoint.

Python (Pros):
- 3 large hardpoints.

Python (Cons):
- Sometimes not-feared by players.
- Low Maneuverability.

Resume: FDL is better for pvp.

For 1 vs 1 PvP, a Python can out tank an FdL (it can have between 8 and 10 scb + over 3000 armour). Assuming pilots are of the same skill level. Also if its modded correctly it can surpass the pre nerf Python, which was a veritable killing machine.

For me, if you want to do missions and play in a varied way... The Python is the only ship you need.

If you want to play PvP or solely combat, FDL.

The Python is giving me so much joy though. I just got back from distant worlds, so I've been out in the black for a long time. (It was the best gaming experience I ever had.)

Now that I'm back, the Python gives me the option to do ANYTHING I want really well. I can haul, smuggle, fight, explore, scavenge, everything. It's so liberating and fun.

So. The Python gets my vote.

The FdL's agility is underrated. I was hating flying one until an excellent Commander gave me some tutoring. You just have to keep the Throttle in the blue to make it turn/pitch. Any time you get out of the blue zone, it will punish you. That includes thrusters. Along with that, Pip management is crucial. The difference between one and four pips to Eng is unbelievable. It was described to me as the hardest ship to master, and I believe it. I would alter your Pro's/Con's list to reflect this.

Pro:
It can fly like a FAS in the right hands
Con:
It will fly like a T-9 in mine.

FDL all the way but FAS for convinience since it has a 16T fuel tank (I even equip an additional one so it has 24T :D).

Python is meh. A sitting duck.
There are no other solo PvP ships that are better. A big ship requiers a good wing and only works solo if you play against another large ship or if you use turreted weaponary against smaller ones but even then you habe to pay more resources than your opponent.

FDL should run circles around a python, so long as you play to it's strength (speed) and don't make the mistake of trying to out-tank the python head to head.

Generally I think it comes down to pilot skill but always thought the Fed Assault Ship, Fer De Lance and Python were considered the best PvP and all round good ships.

That's sound advice for all ships, keep it in the blue zone (I prefer around the middle) and you turn much faster. It's slightly counter intuitive, my dog fighting brain says slower allows you to stay inside the curve, but in space it must be different - it's not like you can stall after all, so going faster can actually make you turn faster in Elite.

I haven't had the money to fly an fdl yet as I am only starting out, but it, a vulture and a python are all on my combat 'to get' list.

Engineers didn't change anything regarding ship balance in their default state and their upgrades take time to do.

FAS and FDL remain the predators with the highest all-around perks.

The FDL is only just starting to work for me. A big improvement was in keeping the throttle in the blue zone and resisting the urge to boost everywhere as if it was a slow Vulture with an overpowered power distributor. I would end up sitting in one place waiting to accelerate away or going to far away and trying to slow down. I'll experiment with four pips to engine as well. I have noticed that the blue zone can be made larger or smaller that way.

It also only started working for me properly when I equipped it in the right way. I gave up on shield cell banks & heat sinks and went for HRPs and shield boosters. The huge gimballed multicannon was the final touch for me. And yesterday I got the double shot engineering mod for both my frag cannons. As I was flying back I got interdicted. It turned out to be a Federal Gunship. I was a little cautious because I wasn't in my Vulture and I didn't have any HRPs, but I thought I would give it a go. It died before the cops arrived much to my surprise.

Definitely looking forward to getting the materials to overcharge the huge multi cannon.
