General / Off-Topic Best sweeties when you were a kid (or now what ever floats ya boat)

So Tj has started the never ending ‘is it a biscuit or cake’ Thread about Jaffa biscuits (guess my answer) which got me thinking of Viscount Mint biscuits (my all time fav) which got me thinking about my Nan, which got me thinking of calling round to see her as a kid and getting to visit the sweet drawer. My favourites were always

ORANGE CHEWITS.

second would be wham bars.
third would be a good olde sherbet dip.

Fruit is nature's sweets. I grew up on 70's and 80's garbage. I feel if I had the information of today I would have avoided all of it.

True ...

So these days I guess would be high coco black chocolate (or honey off me bees) .. going back though;

Jelly Babies in tribute to Tom Baker or ... Sherbert Fountain with a licorice straw! /thread :D

I used to love these specific chocolate tools from my local news agents pic n mix section.

Delicious! Never found anything as nice since. Lol

I'm currently not allowed to visit my local Mollie's sweet shop without supervision, because last time I spent £18 and made myself very very ill. But it was delicious.

As a child of the 70's it would have to be Spangles, whatever happened to Spangles. Right now I have a sudden craving for a Caramac bar, I haven't had one in years, Do they still make them?

I always had love for the licorice.

Since always as twist or little candies.

And also when I was a child I often chewed licorice sticks.

Ahhh I remember going to the local shop with all the jars on the shelved and getting a quarter of something.

Or at the front you could get 3 sweets for a penny.

always liked the Green & White Chewits

I loved these:

Still do but my sugar level won't agree with me anymore.

Refresher Chews, 1/4 of lemon bon-bons in a paper bag and, speaking of sweet cigarettes (hard to believe now) I also remember getting these little soft packets of coconut ice strands which, although I never knew it at the time, I now see were meant to be like little packets of rolling tobacco! :eek:

A Splicer Bar. Rowntree's made them. but stopped them do to not selling well. I was truly gutted.

I remember this. A great ad as I recall and also tried only ONCE before they stopped selling. Gutted!

So good in fact, that to recreate the experience, we improvised;

Take one Opal Fruit / Starburst of each flavour, mush the four together and enjoy!

Caveat, I definitely recommend 'standard' (yellow pack) starburst as opposed to the quite icky tropical version.

I am always surprised about what other people remember about their childhoods.
I could not answer questions like this if my life depended on it.
