Newcomer / Intro Best system for a newbie

So I recently bought my 2nd ship and now I want to make sum money with assassinations and bounty hunting. I don't want to fly around and explore every system for hours just to find a one that is good, so I would be happy if you could give me some help with that.

Now I'am somewhere around SOL in Gommat, and I am searching for a system that has got a starport relatively near to the star, so I don't have to travel 40 minutes to the port that is 0,14Ly away - too far for supercruise, too close for jump. It would be great if the system had also relatively small neighbor systems, so it doesn't take too long to go to the target location just to B O N K that horny pirate in 10 seconds xD.

Now I am in Gommat, and the nearest starport is 190 000Ls away from the star, so it takes a bit of time to get there which is pretty annoying if you finished a mission and really want to get that sweeeet (mmmm) credits right now.

Thanks for your tipps and help ma dear fellas! o7

There are thousands of possible answers. Eravate was the first system I hung around in. I suggest you approach this differently. Use EDDB or similar to set your criteria and then use the results to find a home.

For example what superpower control do you want? What economy? Do you have a preference for certain station types (I hate Coriolis)? Government?

Fill in the dropdowns with your choices and you've narrowed it down considerably to systems that are tailored to your taste and criteria.

Thanks, didn't knew about such websites.

No worries mate. EDDB is hella useful.

A few others I like and you may find useful too

https://inara.cz/ The most useful third party site I've ever used for any game. Inara is the best!

https://coriolis.io/ Useful for testing, sharing and theory-crafting ship builds. EDSY is popular too, but I prefer Coriolis

https://www.edsm.net/ Tracks your discoveries among other features. A great exploration companion

https://github.com/EDCD/EDMarketConnector/wiki Market Connector. Not sure how popular or relevant it still is, but I use it every session as a bridge to the other sites and to export my ship builds

It is :)
Not so much for yourself, but for everyone else (at least if you set it up correctly). It exports all the data of the systems and stations you visit to EDDN, so that EDDB (and the other sites that access EDDN) can keep more or less up to date.

You either misunderstood me, or I am misunderstanding you, but as I said I use it every session.

The good places for bounty farming are Haxel Port, LTT 15574. Sign up with Zachary Hudson and do level 2 to get the Power play bonus. There are every type of RES right outside the station. I recommend the high RES for beginners. For most money, sign up to ALD and farm in the Haz RES in Gende. Again the station is close to the RES. You don't really need missions because the bounties are pretty good. I was making about 70 mil/hr in Gende with level 5 PP (double payout).

AORNUM. There's a High RES very close to the nearest station (Agassiz City - about 500 ly from the star) and you can also get assassination missions for nearby systems. There's usually an Interstellar Factor one jump away too (LAN WANG...seems to always be in anarchy state).

Just don't agree to any special missions that pop up, because they send you to the other stations in the system and you'll fall asleep reaching them.

Did you have any luck OP?

I place a lot of importance on my home system. We've had plenty of discussions here over the years about this. Some commanders put a lot of thought in to it, some just go with the flow and wherever they hang their flight helmet is home. I recently moved, but I was in Dvorsi for about two years, as it had just about everything I wanted. And especially landables, around 40 of them, so all raws were right there. So what are the things I want in a home system?

-- System name must be easily typed. Because it gets typed a lot, in game and third-party sites (I'm in UGP 145 now as an example)
-- Short run to station from star. Less than 300 ls is ideal.
-- Federation and Imperial factions present.
-- Orbis station. Ocellus is second choice. I hate Coriolis stations.
-- Several landables with a good variety of raw mats. Polonium is a plus
-- Within a couple of jumps of Jameson memorial.
-- Some rings for RES and maybe good mining?
-- Mat trader. Manufactured is best
-- High Pop
-- Boom state

There are some other things I like to have around, like a CNB nearby. But that's not too important. The upshot is you can identify all of the factors and features you want in a system and then distill your searches down to find the systems that meet your criteria. Very few systems will have everything, but there are plenty that have most.

System states such as Boom are not permanent but change due to activities such as trading and bounty hunting amongst others so are not a good thing to pick a base by.

Nobody has mentioned it but one of the main determinants for me in choice of home base is the voice of the traffic controller. I couldn't stand the idea of a couple of the redneck voices grating on my nerves every time I arrived. There are some very acceptable voices but "john wayne with loose dentures" and "miss texas 3204" just annoy me a lot.

I only care about the money. You can always turn the sound down, but you can't turn the money up.

To me, it doesn't make sense to have a home system. Now that credits are so easy to get, the cost of transfer is negligible. Go where the money is or where you need to to get the ships and outfitting you need. Until you get a fleet carrier, build a DBX as a taxi to scoot you around the bubble. Do that as soon as you can in the game and use it to unlock the Guardian FSD booster, which is more or less essential to visit all the engineers when building your other ships.

One of the reasons I like to have a home system, aside from the roleplaying aspect, is basing myself in a certain spot for a long time creates a web of nearby allied factions, which keeps expanding out the longer I stay there. So when I want to run missions I can do so while taking the best ones, not only in my home station, but at the destination too. This means I can then take a high level mission from there and just chain them together until I'm ready to return home.

I run my Interstellar Transportation Company, and I want to run as many Elite-level missions as I can. By having good rep all over the region it all dovetails nicely to give me the best mission selection on the boards, regardless of where I ended up on the last hop. I get D8veh's point, which is perfectly valid, and when you're the 3rd-ranked commander on Inara the position is credentialed, but for me, money's not important. When you have billions and nothing you want to spend it on, then it has no motivating factor. Each commander is different and some of us like having a home system. I sure do. Nomad mercenary isn't my style :)
