Best trade ship?

I've only ever done combat or exploration but I should hit elite for exploration when I make it back to the bubble and was going to try my hand at trade. Got a few billion to play with but was curious as to the best ships to go for. I'm guessing type 9 would be one

T-9 or Cutter.

T-9 can carry a tiny amount extra cargo than the Cutter, but has low jump range and it's very slow.
Cutter has better jump range, much faster, it's pretty much indestructible, cannot be masslocked, but handles horribly. You need to schedule turns in advance, and you're bound to rip your joystick from the base (or punch a hole in the keyboard) trying to turn it.
Cutter is sexier, but T-9 is manlier.

I'd take the T-9.

Depends on what you like... You got a few billions so why not try several? I would recommend the Python because it can carry the most and still hit outposts. The t9 is hard to beat for bulk carrying, the Anaconda is good with good defensive power. The T10 ain't bad but it can't carry that much for it's size. If you have rank with the Feds or Imps the Cutter or Vette will both work as well. I run the T9 and Krait right now. The T9 is delivers a lot of bang for the buck and the Krait is just a blast to fly. Why limit yourself, try them all!

After all, this game is all about flying ships...

Technically cutter but its not worth the grind. T9 does almost the same.

Askavir i thought the cutter was top cargo in the game.

T-9 got buffed and can now carry more cargo than the Cutter. (756 with shield, 788 without).

wow, thats a t bag to the people who ground a cutter.

Cutter still has advantages, like being much faster, jumping much further, being immune to mass lock and being pretty much indestructible.

T-9 has the biggest cargo capacity, and it makes sense, after all its the largest dedicated trading ship.

Cutter but only with 8A thrusters & DD engineering. G5 ideally. Guess you could do a T9 but personally I'd rather punch myself in the face while doing the engineering grind all over from the start then fly T9 again. Yes I've tried 3 times and fully engineered.....nope. I'll deliver that 1500t of Biowaste in a Hauler but thanks anyway. Really though I would take a T10 or Python if I didn't have the Cutter.

Sad. I did not know that. With the grind and costs involved, and the engineering required to make it sort of good to fly, that really hits the ego of my cutter. Please don't tell her.

@OP: Depends on what sort of trading your up to. Theres a lot that counts here.
If you look to spend your billions to just make more billons or Elite Trader you might look at any of the big ones and bulk haul or participate in certain CGs. But flying any of those is not particularly super fun.
My cutter made me 300M+ in the first CG i had it going. If smuggling is a thing or exploring the bubble with rares, an ASP might be a thing.
And then there is the Python, which is my favorite ship overall. All other ships I only fly for their particular function when I need them.

This is solid advice. I have both, I fly the T-9 for trade, the Cutter is ostensibly for CGs but mostly gathers dust.

Cutter is a good choice, as is python for outposts and krait for longer range trade to outposts.

Also 'vette if you expect incoming enemies and want moar mats, and 'conda for more long range large shipments.

Depends on how you look at the investment. A T7 will cover its cost and generate returns much faster than a cutter. So will a T 9. Cutter is probably the "best" but its 5 times the price of a T9 once outfitted and doesn't haul more. If you haul just because you like to, cutter wins. If return on investment is priority, T7 or T9.
