Best trading location debate..

Would you be willing to share your trading location?

I play a lot in Solo mode, I am still trying to find a good spot since game launch, is there any place that has more than 6-10k in trading? If there is, would you please list them, maybe people can keep this updated and the mods sticky it so that everyone can start on the right track with trading.

I will eventually add them all in the main post here:

there are loads of web-based trading tools updated by commanders manually - I used to use elitetradingtool.co.uk during the beta but now I just use my own spreadsheet for the systems i'm currently working in.

part of the fun of elite is finding your own way, if people start submitting and exploiting certain systems/trade routes - the dynamic economy will ensure they're worthless in hours!

once you get a ship capable of 100t cargo like the type6, it's easy to pull in 50-100k per run if you buy commodities from high supplies and sell to appropriate stations with high demand.

Problem is that routes get saturated really fast. I have a route that brings 1700Cr/tonn one direction (3 jumps with my 5m FSD) and about 400 back, for a total of over 2000Cr roundtrip. Problem is, I got two friends who also do this route, and the three of us together saturate it after a couple of hours. Next day it's ok again, but after only a few trips the prices start falling fast. I'd love to share the route, but it would be economically dead in hours if I did. Sorry if this sounds selfish, but it that's trading for you - finding that route no one knows about :)

I'l give you a hint though: read the news, there are clearly opportunities for those who don't mind boosting into stations before they can get scanned ;)

oh well, worth a try, i find a lot of the tools don't have systems included, bac kto the spreadsheet for me ;) thanks for the tips though

Not everyone will share there best trade routes as they want maximize their income before everyone gets to know about it . I know I woudn't. While I am making 2k per tonne per run

1700 per ton?? Big number.
Please, tell us with what commodity and volume and is the route between stations? Or it is with outpost?

I haven't bothered with normal trading.

In my off-the-shelf Cobra I'm at around 800k now profit from maybe 8 hours play, and have kitted myself out a little bit (4 gimballed pulse lasers for cargo-hatch targetting, better power coupling & FSD, larger cargo rack, discovery & k-warrant scanners)

Find an anarchy system with a black market, and several stations within easy flying distance. Do ever 'retrieve stolen cargo' job you can find (black boxes, rebel transmissions, prototype tech, military plans, ancient artefacts, technical blueprints) - they usually pay 12k + for one or two units...

and then start exploring USS's

You'll find you can start stocking up on the above mentioned stolen goods, and take a job on then immediately give them the cargo...also picking up bounties on pirates, or generally robbing transporters. sell off anything stolen that isn't one of the mentioned above goods.

Not really a trade route because it concerns rare commodities :

Go to Leesti, Lave, Orrere, Zaonce, Diso and Uszaa and accumulate about 74 t of those rare commodities. These systems are close to each other.
After that you need to do a long trip (~150 Ly) and sell them for ~16.000 Cr/t !

You can use this spreadsheet to locate all stations with rares and find the best systems to sell them : https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1haUVaFIxFq5IPqZugJ8cfCEqBrZvFFzcA-uXB4pTfW4/pubhtml

With a Hauler and 20 t, it's easy to accumulate rare commodities and earn ~320.000 Cr with one trip for example ^^ !

Let's just say that the commodity is only available in anarchy systems, and highly illegal in Empire systems, but sells on the regular market (not black market) in some stations as long as you can get in before they scan you. I haul 208 tonnes each direction per round (return trip not very profitable, but the sum is great). Three jumps. Both end points are stations, not outposts (my Type-7 cannot land on them).

Sorry, that's really saying too much already :) The route won't last, and if only two more traders with Type-6 or larger come along, it will be dead, so you'll have to forgive me for not giving coordinates. Again, if you read all the news very carefully, you will actually find trading opportunities. Cudos to my friend who deducted this route from the newsfeed.

Oh, and if you do figure it out, do not post here, or neither you nor I will ever again make money of it. Really!

Actually, my best tip in general is to get together a couple of friends. Look for deviations from gal. avg., and once you find a couple, branch out and find a return port. We've done this fairly organized, and found several routes in range of 1200-2200 per round trip. It takes time and patience, but they exist all over the place. Doing it on your lonesome is depressing, slow and difficult (in my experience anyway).

Until trade is sorted out, do this, or similar with rares.

I havent found anything better than my current run of 470/ton. Luckily i have a type 6. But if i could do 1700... That would be like a wet dream.

You mean hauling Slaves in the name of Senator Zemina Torvald? Not that big of a secret as you might think it is...It was big news in the GalNet, dont know how anyone could have missed it.

Thank you very much for the explanation.
I don't have any clue about what you told us, because I am very far from the Empire.
And the most important - this kind of routes is not profitable to me. I found an average route with 1200 per round but with only one jump at low cost and stations near a jump exit.

all this talk of credit per ton is useless. you have to make it credit per ton per minute, or the entire point is moot.

without even bothering looking for better, i've got a round trip of 73/ton/min (600 one, 500 the other, 15 min round trip)

Actually, the best route we found, which no longer is profitable, was between a station and an outpost in the same system. I think it was a 1700 roundtrip one, Beryllium one direction and Silver in the other I think. Didn't jump systems in two days of playing :D

My point wasn't so much about my particular route, but about the fact that these 1500+ routes exist all over the place, but finding them is hard unless ones goes about it in a fairly organized fashion. I spent two days only looking for routes, ignoring low-profit trades, until we came across the one I run now. It's risky, as I have no clue the fine I would get if I get caught trying to get into the station with millions in illegal cargo, but that adds to the fun and feels a lot more rewarding than jumping between two bases in one system for two days, which is how I could afford my Type-7. Don't think I'll ever do that again, as grinding in games is kinda pointless (i.e. I am supposed to play to have fun) :)

Actually, one more thing: taking missions on the stations to become allied seems to help also (just take missions to supply what you're already hauling and pocket the extra profit - usually earns me another 50k per run). I don't know if it is because I'm friendly with the Empire now (and Baron) or ally with local system (or because of Broker trade rank), but I've been offered 300k+ profit trade missions every now and then. That helps break up the monotony, though not much more profitable than doing a regular roundtrip.
