best "view window in vr" app for rift?

I know there are a bunch out there, looking for something that I could open not only twitch, but just video files I have downloaded on my computer. I saw that ovrdrop does that, but not sure if it works with rift? Thanks in advance

edit: I saw ovrdrop has limited rift support but does it work if I don't run through steamvr?

OVRDrop only works if you play Elite using the SteamVR runtime, not the Oculus one, if you own a Rift you do not want to this to yourself (think boxing with one arm tied behind your back). Oculus has V Dashboard, to be honest it has too much of a performance drop to make it worth while and no way to disable it completely within the game if you need your performance back, well other than restarting the game completely. It also has the tendency to send ghost inputs to your ship when you activate the dashboard sending you into a death spiral.

Honestly there are no viable options unless you can put up with tanking frame rates and stutter.

Look around on this sub-forum (or search "bigscreen") and you'll find a walk-through of the steps somebody took to get BigScreen working on the Rift. I haven't had any success with it, but then again I haven't tried opening ED from the launcher. That's next on my troubleshooting list.

Bigscreen is a program to view your desktop and programs as a screen inside bigscreens own VR environment. I believe the OP wants (like many of us) a way to view a screen/program/browser "injected" into ED (or any other game)

OP is searching for something like this i presume:

You can play YouTube videos and such things in a floating window, while playing Elite. You can also edit size and position of that window and fix its position in space, so it appears to be part of the ships UI.

yeah that's along the lines of what I want, but CylonSurfer already called that one out specifically for causing frame rate loss and stutter :_;

The older versions of V had frame rate loss, the newest one does not. You need to make sure it is ran in admin mode and if you want to add URLs to the library, add it before you start Elite.

Plex is good for running videos from your computer to an web server, I wanted an entire movie in netflix a few days ago. I use V for my stream chat, using the Twitch popout chat URL.

Unfortunately V only does web-pages, apart from that the current version seems to work quite well.

Totally useless for putting an arbitrary app in-game though, which is what I want to do.

Even the newest version of V Dashboard causes frame rate dips. Not as bad as the earlier builds but enough for it to not be viable unless you can take it jerking everywhere when you get interdicted or try and do anything in a RE Site or any surface area. Deep space flight is about the only place it works without issue. It's a shame, I like it and would use it more often if it came with a simple kill switch and a key mapping to reactivate. Oh and if it didn't make my ship behave oddly when I open the dashboard.

It's waaay to buggy at this point.
