Best views of a station yet...and some stunning FA off flying

Unbelievable

Well, the subject says it all really, but wow...just wow. The station looks phenomenal from 2 feet away. :)

As for the flight assist off flying skill on show here...

Hats off to you, sir! Keep those videos coming.

Great flying there! And some very impressive views, especially the escape at the end, weaving between the antennae on the spinning city!

Truly amazing video, that not only shows great views, but also how much potential is in this game, even though it's only an early beta still!

Does the author use Occulus? The "head" movements seem very smooth and natural.

He's using TrackIR.

Yes, this video is awesome! The way all turns into chaos, the FA off piloting...

I can't wait to see Station and law enforcements in action!

Isinona is the best Elite pilot I have seen to date. How can anybody make counter thrusting and FA off look as natural as walking down the street?

I know, TBH I couldn't even tell he was using FA off.

Makes my terribly wobbly constant adjusting FA off flight technique look rather.....terrible.

Do you mean switching Flight Assist off by "FA off" term?

I actually never use it... I may give it a go next time I'm in the game. Is it worth it?

Just like Starbuck! ;)

Indeed. There is an option to use FA off by holding a button (as opposed to a toggle) and IMO that is where you should start.

Experiment with it in the SP scenarios, so you dont lose any cr though! Try going round asteroids etc

Brings about the possibility to turn while heading in a different direction, and fire upon evil doers.

Heck yeah it is! As I've gotten better and better, I spend increasingly less time with my Flight Assist on. I'm down the point where I only use it for navigation and chasing down targets. When I'm in combat, I toggle on a hold, so I can quickly pop in and out at will. I find myself combining the two to be the most effective but a few have a true mastery of it and can fly without it full time.

I notice he boosts alot while turning. Does this tighten up the curves a bit? When I'm in FAO i feel real slippery in turns, its difficult for me to maintain proper control and hence why I'll pop in to do a maneuver, pop out to stabilize.

Have a look at this tutorial video by the same commander. I fully intend to have a proper go at mastering (or flapping about like a newly hatched bird on ice) the technique when I'm well enough to get back in game.

Lovin' it! :)

this mans flying is great, watched the video 3 times, though something bugs me.

I only have the single player at the moment (beta backer) but whenever my velocity exceeds the blue zone i cant turn anywhere near as fast as this guy does maxed out, which is frustrating because i sometimes try and use my lateral thrust to evade incoming fire, and perhaps to get myself into a better firing position, this usually just results in giving them several seconds of free shooting on me (since the AI seems largely immune to evasive maneuvering in the 1.0 build) and puts me far out and takes longer to line my guns up than if i had just continued turning with them until they pop.

He's using his RCS thrusters and boost to turn faster.

Personally, I'd probably never turn FA on again, if we could only have a mode with heading hold, i.e. an FA Off mode where your nose stays where you leave it, rather than keep drifting until you reverse your previous input.
