Engineers best way of finding poi's on planets?

after two days of searching I still can't find any cracked industrial firmware. so I am trying to find data points on planets to scan. is there a correct way to do this other than to fly over the surface and wait for a poi to turn up?

The weird thing is I have one ! It said "Captured form settlment data point networks", but I never manage to capture a settlement...

Settlements have data point terminals.

I know, but when I scan one, it said I have to scan the 4 over before the timer expires. Problem is all other data points are "compromised" and I can't scan them...

been driving around a settlement, can't find a data point. is there a way to find it?

I dont think the data points are in settlements that you can land on. There are in the non landable settlements but I tried scanning them and nothing happens. It would seem the POI are the best way.
