Best way to align with marked jump target (how to find the target?)

Is there something in settings or an icon that is on the ship map that would help me find the target to my next jump. Once I plot my routes the next jumps automatically target but when I arrive at a star, I often guess which direction to point the ship and fly a bit around the start until I see the orange circle

is there a better way or something on my map I'm overlooking?

Top left of radar, a small circle with a dot. This dot is the star, planet or station you're r locked on. Position shows direction. Hollow means it's behind you.

Is this in settings because there isn't a dot for me.

My main ship is the Imperial Cutter and I've zoomed my radar out as far as possible.
I also drive the dolphin

This indicator also works for showing your assigned landing pad when inside the Starport docking station - but the dot is not shown in the center it's at the bottom of the indicator when the landing pad is directly below you (filled in front, empty behind same).

I memorized where all the pads were in a starport before I learned about the blue dot working for landing pads. It was one of those "well that's now pointless" moments.

I'm astonished that you made it to the imperial cutter without realizing this basic tool.

I dont say that to be a jerk, so I hope you don't take it that way, I'm just astonished that there isn't more attention drawn to this fabulous tool, come to think of it I don't recall the tutorials ever singling this out. Granted it's been two years since I played the tutorials.

Agreed. I can't imagine flying without using the compass. I found out about it here in the forums, but I was still in my starter sidewinder.

It's been in the game since '84...
I was still an itch in my dads pants in 84. I think I was playing a few weeks with the same issue OP has before someone on the forums clued me in to the compass. Of course, having played the ports and emulations of the original elite after playing Elite Dangerous you bet your bottom I knew exactly how to operate that compass.

In the HUD, slightly above and left of the central sensor display, there is a small, orange "compass" which will either show a small, white circle or a solid white dot in it. If your next system in route is selected as a target (it usually is, automatically) then, if the destination is in front of you the compass will show a solid white dot, if it is behind you, the compass will show a white circle. Maneuver so that the solid white dot is in the center of the compass and your next system should be right in front of you. If you see a small white circle, "pull" until the circle moves off the edge of the compass and turns solid, then maneuver to put the solid white dot in the center of the compass.

Note: The compass also shows the direction to your landing pad when inside a space station and landing clearance has been approved. o7

Nice one +1 bro. Every day a school day! Years of flying and never spotted that.

Its a whole new experience for me using this.
Believe it or not, I was making due without it as my screen wasn't big enough to see the detail.

I really hope the xbox one x puts the game in native 4k to sharpen everything. Life is good now with the Xbox one s and a big screen 4k tv.

Imagine if you can, I've gone to Colonia and am almost half way to elite explorer but just found this out

Hehe you would assume otherwise right. :)

I'm sorry, you made it through the cutter grind without realizing what and where that indicator was?

I went a really long time without knowing about this too! It helps so much now tho.

I recently fired some up and they need to be updated. HUD, Station Services menu, and even Outfitting in some of them are from an old version. Low fruit, though, as long as the point of the training comes across. :)
