Best way to buy a second account??

I need a second account so i can play an alt toon instead of just my Empire character
I am leaning towards maybe an alliance character or maybe strictly independent havent decided yet.
But which way should I go in purchasing my second account (Have beta access on my main)

Options seem to be as follows:

1: Buy the game digitally from elite store with a different email addy and use the launcher etc.
2: Buy the game in a box from elite store which does appeal to me as i have various previous elites boxed on my shelf.
3: Buy the game from steam. Upside steam storage etc. Downside FD lose 30% on everything else i purchase with that account.
4: Another option I havent seen.

At the moment I am leaning towards option 2 but interested in opinions on this.

Option 2 is a box with some goodies.
Whilst there will be a CD in it with the game launcher, it's the original launcher and you will still need to download the current launcher and game.

Steam Storage doesn't really add anything, since all your data is already stored on the FD servers anyway. So I'd suggest to go with 1 or 2, I don't think 3 adds anything.

I too am interested in this. Can I just go to the ED store and purchase the game using a different email address and then switch between accounts on my computer or is it not as straight forward as this?

Yes but I remember hearing there were problems with using two accounts off the same computer, although I might just be imagining that. Anyone tried this and did it work?

It's not a problem, you'd just use the same launcher and log in with a different email address- job done. Option 2 by the way. :)

I have 2 accounts, and the only "problem" is if you use the same Windows account to log into them, each time you switch you have to enter the verification code that they email you.

Create a 2nd Windows account, and log into different E : D accounts with each one, and you're good to go.

Ok that would be a problem as my main account is attached to my work email which i don't normally have access to outside the office. Thanks for the info.

That is good to know, thanks!

I am in the same boat and asked that question before
Frontier should offer an option to add another account to an email
I want to play a pirate and a commerce pilot not both at the same time and I am happy to give ED more money but I dislike having to use two emails/two accounts

Adding options to buy more character slots would be nice

Additionally, a second, "gaming", account is not a bad idea from a security point of view.

I wonder if this would still be the case if second account was purchased through Steam?

Did a little more searching and found this:

These secondary accounts are obviously going to be used to jump to wing positions for faster trading. I mean, if you want to start over, just start over. As much of a time sink as ED is already, especially with PP, if you have time to run two accounts and still maintain a semblance of reputation and get merits and levels, your family probably doesn't know you live in the same home.

This is exactly what I did 6 months ago. It is so nice to be able to have some choice in what type of game play suits me any given day. I have even cleared save a couple of times on both accounts just to keep it interesting. Once you figure out how to make credits and progress quickly it's no big deal to start over but having two accounts is the only way to go.
