Best way to find Tritium hotspots?

Well, after a LOT of saving, I finally got my Fleet Carrier this week!

I'm currently based in the bubble so picking up Tritium for it isn't an issue. However, when I take it further afield I would like to mine to at least top up my fuel supply. I'm just unsure of the best way to find good mining spots out in the black.

I am aware of various 3rd party tools - is one of these the best method?

Yeah they aren't in any way rare and unusual. Double and triple hotspots are rare and for those the various third party tools are the only way to locate them (well other than by a lot of scanning and looking obviously, what I mean is there's no formula to finding them); even then good luck with finding them off the beaten track since most of the tools seem to focus on mining it to sell, but regular single hotspots are ten a penny in icy rings.

That's reassuring to hear anyway.
I scout ahead in a small ship, I set a location of 500ly. By the time I reach 450ish, I knock down to economical route. When I arrive in a sytem, I always FSS it all. I might see some Icy Rings, I go DSS them. If there are no Trit hotspots, I still have 8-10 jumps to find one. I nearly always do. I call the carrier, maybe go scavenge some mats while I’m waiting. Carrier arrives. I sell the Explo data which normally covers at least half that weeks upkeep. Get in my mining Python. Get some trit. Repeat.

EDDB - Bodies search and find, could save you some time searching, you can search by ring type but not for hotspots. you also may need to be running EDMC or your reference system may not be recognised.

Tritium can be found in almost any icy ring and almost any type of hotspot within an icy ring, it's just that amounts vary:)

Tritium can be found almost anywhere indeed. Even if there's no designated hotspot in a particular ring, as long as it's Icy there will be some. Some regions are sparse to devoid of them though. The route up to Rackham's Peak for example requires bringing all the fuel needed to get there and back again (as a side note I can highly recommend going there, the view is just jaw dropping. Plus the station pays well for anything booze).

generally total range of a tritium filled Fc is ~130 000 ly. that's beagle point and back plus some.

i recommend testing tritium mining in the bubble - i have done so and would personally only mine tritium for my FC in a case of emergency. for that, tritium hotspots are plentifull.

I'm playing on PlayStation so don't think that's possible for me.
Sorry, PC user, not familiar with Playstation.

If you can still access EDDB the reference system box will still allow you to find a near system to start a search from, just maybe not the system you are in if it has not been visited by anyone with reporting on.

I found just heading out in a scout ship to the limit of your preferred distance, and putting time into searching is the best way. Avoid forums as you don’t want to waste time mining a ring which is known to hundreds of other players.

No, I didn't have enough tritium with me last year on New Year's Eve at Rackham's Peak, and found tritium on the way back.

Thanks for the feedback. I have come across trit when mining previously but I've never been in a situation where I've *needed to mine it. I guess the TLDR is keep an eye out for icy rings when scanning and top up as much as possible on an ongoing basis.
Yeah, a little late to the party, but as the thread has been bumbed anyway...

This continuous "topping up" (as in filling up to the max) is actually a bad idea because you will just consume more fuel for the weight you carry around. Instead, make a rough plan for the trip and the needed fuel with some added reserve for underway distractions. If it is a longer trip into the dark you may still reach the point that you want some gameplay variation from all the jumping - honking - scanning, and then you can always insert a mining session.

It is more efficient to run your carrier down at~3,000t-5,000t (=> approx. 15,000ly-25,000ly range) of Tritium reserves and keep it at that level by mining instead of keeping your reserves >15000t just because you can.
