Newcomer / Intro Best way to set up sidewinder for exploring/trading

Thank you all for the tips! Just for those wondering what I have done, I've removed both my hard points upgraded my FSD, thrusters, power plant, and one other thing that I can't remember off the top of my head. So now my jump range is about 11.7 Ly. I've been sticking to doing courier missions whilst trading and exploring. I'm currently sitting in the Sibi System as I'm trying to slowly make my way towards where my friend is. My docking skills have improved a lot since my first day I can now go into a station at full throttle deploy my landing gears to slow down and dock in a matter of seconds (now I just need to make sure I don't get cocky). Looking to get the Adder as my next ship once I get enough Credits.

You're doing OK - Right on, Commander!

The Adder is a good little cargo hauler/light exploration vessel (I have one and used it to trade up to the Viper from the Sidey). It has pretty poor cockpit visibility - almost claustrophobic after the Sidey, actually, but it has a good roll rate and it's really easy on the fuel. It has excellent jump range for it size too. You may wish to peruse the kind of hardware that fits on the medium hardpoint. I have a railgun on mine. It's for show more than anything else really - I consider weapons on the Adder to be more like the eyes on a butterfly's wings or the hood on a cobra than the fangs in a tiger's mouth. It's a threat display to startle an attacker to give you time to escape.

Once I get the Adder I'll have more experience and so I might put some fire power on it but it all depends on how good I feel about fighting. Although having something like that on there might be a good idea for some Bambi pirates and the like as a deterrent.

New to the game and I've been trading/exploring for the time being till I can get a better ship, and I was just wondering if there is a better setup to make it better for trading/exploring?

I exclusively explore with a Sidewinder. I'm currently over 36,000ly from Sol beyond the core heading to the far side of the galaxy. I stream my journey on Twitch.

Here's my loadout. The only thing I would have changed about my loadout is the life support. I should have kept the lighter module for more jump range.

Excellent thread, I was about to ask the same original question myself last night, having started last week.
I am that one, trundling around Eravate making 500cr on crop harvesters, getting bored pantless and wondering what to do.
Been playing open, but switched to solo as got killed twice last night by people whose idea of fun seems to be stopping others learn and enjoy the game.
Well it's the internet, so a fair smattering of Goomers is to be expected :) Don't know why they're always attracted to me - I must be a Goomer magnet :)
But helpful threads like this make it better :)
I like Cmdr r4nger0's loadout above, but I need to trade for now to make money.
Will look at extending jump range whilst keeping cargo capacity and have a bash at finding some rares.
Thanks to all the helpful people in this community.
