Beta 2.0

Beta 2.0 can't come soon enough:mad: trying to dock at Azeban City.
Get clearance, fly into station, clearance and pad withdrawn.

8 docking requests later, finally get clearance again, but pad assignment keeps changing every few seconds, so after 10 minutes flying from pad to pad inside station and numerous loitering warnings, I give up, save and exit game, leaving my ship undocked and floating inside station.

The game clearly cannot handle too many players at this time.

So I'm gonna go grab some dinner and come back when things are a bit quieter:cool:

The same thing will probably happen when beta 2 is released as everyone will be logging in to try the new content.

I'm sure they will yes, but maybe FD will have sorted some of the major issues with the network performance ;)

Maybe they need to do a shortish timeout, and stick you in your own island so you can get on and play, none of this "load testing" stuff.

That depends if the changes they done with moving parts of this code to the server is in that build.

Docking and AI spawning are in fact being handled by peers at the moment, which one reason they have issues! Some parts of both of these are currently moving to partially server-authenticated methods to avoid the edge cases that cause nasty experiences.

Yep, 'tis most definitely a bug!

There's a new version of the pad allocation & related systems written internally that will go through QA testing/etc soon, but I'm hopeful most of these issues have been squished. Preferably to an unrecognisable pulp that'll never show up again :p.

Hopefully it is! :)

It's frustrating but these issues really need to get sorted out, so it probably is more about load testing than it is about get on and play, right now.

Lots of people are keen to test the things that don't really need testing :) Most of the game's fundamentals are pretty solid. Networking is the exception - it's absolutely nowhere near a level they could release with. So brushing it under the carpet so people can play in early beta - leaving it to rear its head again near launch is the last thing they should do.

Sounds like they might have us more spread out in beta 2. So hopefully they have made a lot of progress with it - we'll see.
