Beta access advantages

Hi,

I want to start playing soon and was wondering whether I should go ahead and buy Beta access or get the Mercenary edition and wait until release. Can anybody tell me what the advantage of getting Beta would be (apart from early access)? I read that only Alpha/Beta backers will get free access to Sol. Are there any other things?

that's part of the M.E. bonus pack, i think this late in the game's beta cycle the only real advantage is you get to practice before the game launches for real and the wipes stop happening.

The best advantage is you can play *right now.* If you don't feel like you *need* to play the game like I did, then save your extra dough for a joystick upgrade :)
IMHO, there is so much in the game to dive in to, worrying about getting a few little extras or not is no big deal. You're going to love it either way so what's it worth to you.

Thanks for all the replies, sorry for not reacting earlier but I didn't receive any notifications that someone had answered !?!
Anyway, good to hear your thoughts on that, you're probably right to spend the money on a better joystick then.
Still, if anyone knows about *real* advantages I'd still consider getting the Beta!

Eagle and easier access to Sol I think. Though the impression I got was that there may still be a few goodies to come. Can you resist? Are you sure? Watched any youtube videos lately? That could be you right now you know :D

I couldn't resist. Then I bought a joystick, and Voiceattack, oh and an OS upgrade to be 'supported'. Think I might like a head tracker.. :p

As a clarifying point, Sol won't be the only restricted system. Some reclusive independent systems, likely the seats of power for the Empire and Alliance, and a few other similarly special systems will be restricted in the same manner as Sol. Without beta access you probably need to get high enough rep with the controlling faction or buy a permit to gain access to such places. Other than that, you got it right about things.

Haha, good points. Actually I am watching E : D on youtube nearly every day!
In the very last newsletter they keep saying something about "the lasting benefits" of Beta access - I really want to know what that could be!!
