Beta Access, and how to get it?

How do you get Beta access?

I've been playing for years at this game - never done beta and for the first time ever I feel like it.

So what do I do?

If you backed the game at alpha or beta status, or purchased a lifetime pass last year, then there will be an extra game type to download and run in the launcher.

You can't, currently. Most of those who have Beta access have it via either of the lifetime passes, or else by buying beta access separately when it was available.

I think Beta access was only for sale at the start of the season, not for individual point releases. So I don't think it'll be available again until next 'season', or whatever happens after 2.4.

That said, given this is a multiplayer-related update where open testing is crucial, I expect they'll open it to everyone for free towards the end of the beta period.

It's reserved for people who bought the packages that came bundled with it early on, and those who buy the beta access before and during the beta period.

I bought it during the 2.1 beta. It'll most likely be on sale during the 2.3 beta for ~$10.

What Who? said.

It's closed beta, sometimes purchasable during beta for a price but not guaranteed. There have been open betas like for 1.4 CQC but these are rare as they go, its possible but no promises. Personally I doubt open beta, the livestream looked pretty slick apart from the networking and I assume their using similar stuff to the wings networking. CQC was different as the whole matchmaking, game etc uses different network architecture afaik.

Of course, not making any money out of it would be kind of a lost opportunity.

All testing is better when it's open. This should've been made painfully evident when 2.1 was released to live.

I highly doubt they'll ever open the beta up at any point in time; it's a source of revenue. Scummy revenue, but revenue nonetheless.

'Closed beta'? I have the lifetime pass, but have not seen the beta option on my launcher this time. Is that because this one is closed, or I don't play enough.

On the contrary, too many testers just leads to the bugreports being duplicated about 400 times so trying to find the unique ones becomes a challenge in itself. You only need enough testers to raise as many bug-reports as the developers can close-out, all further are detrimental to the process. Of course if our beta testers were not mostly in it to try the new stuff first then we'd need a much smaller pool.

Given the multiplayer nature of this update I wouldn't be at all surprised if the beta becomes open at some point for stress testing.

If you have the lifetime pass you should always have beta option. Ensure your launcher is the lifetime pass download one on the store page (I got caught on the first one by not swapping over).
You may have to scroll through the options to find it though (also caught me out before).

When 2.3 beta goes live check and if it's not there as an option and you are sure you have the right launcher throw a support ticket up :)

Generally they open up for purchasing beta access when beta begins, did so last two beta's no reason to think otherwise.

It hasn't launched yet Arry. Your launcher will update once it detects the new code is available. Thursday probably.

Was just going to say the same - you only have to peek into the bugs forum to see the bottleneck isn't the test process but in development.

That said, in terms of feature/balance changes they probably do need feedback from as wide a player base as possible, as soon as possible.
