Beta ended - so how do we remove beta from our computers ??

Its about 14gbs i seem to remember, is there an easy way to remove beta, or do we have to start fiddling about with folders and stuff.

Yes go to your Elite dangerous folder and find products subfolder. There should be a folder named similar to public test server or smth like that if i am not mistaken. Remove that you remove the beta; BUT you might want to hold onto those files and overwrite your live build folder on patch day which may shorten your patching process significantly.

Be warned tho 'cos i had problems doing that on some of the previous builds, you still may have to dl the whole thing.

I'd just erase the beta files and redownload the whole thing when it goes live. That way you are sure to avoid any obsolete files in your game directory which could cause corruption or crashes or bugs in general.

I'll admit to mostly treating beta as a preload for the data that goes into updates. I could be mistaken, but I am pretty sure the downloads of sharp updates have consistently ended up really small, after a having participated in a beta that have had a large one.

This is correct
When the live update comes the launcher will check the Beta files to see if any can be used

I always wait until after the live release to clear the beta files

the problem is, none of this data gets cleaned up once it's no longer needed.

You have to manually go in and delete stuff, which is not necessary since the update process should do that for you if it was coded to do so - which it isn't.

Unless you really have a very small drive, the temporary inconvenience of 15Gb of beta which is generally discarded later is a small issue. Also. I would expect anyone taking part in a beta to know how to clear their own drives.

My ex used to tell me that not everyone could be as smart as me, and that my expectations of others in that regard were often too high.

(And I'm a cool cat, not some nerdly elitist or anything.)

So, it does go away after the live release?

i would expect a software developer to be able to code that.
if i go to a bakery i expect bread not instructions on how to bake a loaf.
erm.....maybe loaf is a bad example :D

In the past, the beta files have been auto-removed. I'm not sure of the timeframe, but I've never deleted them and the old beta files aren't on my drive anymore.

Luckily, I don't need to worry about such things anymore: I have 2 TB of SSDs and a 3 TB hard drive. Progress is great! My first PC only had 2 floppies (and I did real programming on it). My first hard drive was only 20 MB.

This, and the subsequent smaller download to the new live version seemed to be the case for me.

It's not broken, just leave it alone. Maybe it will 'fix' itself :p

Just don't. Not sure if I was lucky but I never got any file corruption or had to tinker with the files after the transition. Leaving it as is significantly shortens your download time (as others already stated above). After that it always has removed itself after the game went live. <- Sorry, I just seem to remember that this is wrong and never was the case. But you can safely remove the ...\PUBLIC_TEST_SERVER_64 folder after the life build is successfully installed, if you need to free some disc space.

Seriously, if in doubt and something really would be screwed up you could still use the 'Validate Game files' function from the client.

On a slightly related note, on each update during all beta 3.x downloads, my controls always defaulted to 'Custom'. Very confusing until I figured what happens. Fortunately I have my own custom settings renamed some times ago so it can't be touched by the update process. I just needed to reselect them after each new update. Did this only happen to me? I could imagine that people who didn't rename their control settings were running into some serious trouble...

Controls never reset for me since I am playing. But you are not the only one with that issue as far as I know. I also backupped my control files to better be safe than sorry.

Is that the reason why she/he is your ex now? :p

For those that haven't, it might be worth taking a backup of your 2.4 control settings. They're in %localappdata%\Frontier Developments\Elite Dangerous\Options\Bindings if you're on PC and have a standard installation.
