Beta Hydri

Hi,

I cannot progress through naval progression. I keep being told to go to Beta Hydri to meet a rep to collect a permit for Beta Hydri. As I already have this permit I cannot complete this mission.
This has been going on for weeks now. I had hoped it would be sorted by now as it appears a lot of other people have been having similar problems. (Forums).

Anyone know how to fix this. I have tried to raise a ticket but I am told gameplay issues do not get tickets opened!!

Regards,

Chris Jack

It's not a mission, it's a permit. You don't even need to go to Beta Hydri, you can progress in rank almost anywhere in Federation space, as long as you haven't already maxed out your local rep.

As far as I know, you don't have to go to Beta Hydri and just continue to do missions and eventually you'll get another naval progression mission. At least that is how it has worked for me (Ensign at the moment).

I can't help, but I am in the same situation. Well, almost... The Beta Hydri mission disappeared after a while, but after weeks of trading/rep missions no further progression mission appeared for me. :( I wanted to reach Baron so I could buy a Clipper.

I gave up around a month ago and went exploring. I'm on my way back slowly now, and am hoping that the ranking missions have sorted themselves out by the time I get back to Empire. I will be making sure that I sell my data in stations I haven't previously visited, and likewise will be looking for reputation missions from new stations (apparently spreading the love has a noticeable effect - if you just frequent the same stations, you'll reach a plateau in progression - I'll be putting this theory to the test :) ).

Those missions are trollbait. There's nothing and no one there to see or talk to. All the mission does is unlock that destination in your FSD computer so you can actually visit the system.

You're not missing anything. Those things have been like that since at least Beta, if not before. I'd be surprised if they're even on a list of back burner projects to be ignored. :D

One way to jumpstart rank progression again is to do some missions for the minor factions that are opposed to the faction that's allied with the Empire/Federation (depending on which main faction you're working on). When you annoy them enough to ding your rep level, swap back to doing missions for them again. As soon as you pop back up to friendly/allied again, you'll likely see another rank mission spawn.

I was hoping this would sort itself out. (I have been watching the forums and a lot of others seem to be having similar problems. The advice seems to be keep on playing and eventually you will start getting new progression opportunities. This was quite a few weeks ago and I have not had a single one offered other than Beta Hydi again and again. Although to me this isn't a game killer it has got progressively more and more annoying. It feels like a little bit of the game is being withheld.

Just keep doing reputation type missions and you will eventually get a Naval Progression mission.

As I think may have been mentioned, they tend to occur faster in systems where you are NOT allied to factions yet.

It may be that you have to move on to another system, and get friendly with them.

The problem is, that the right hand display shows you as allied with them all if you are allied with the Major Faction.

eg - if you are Allied with the Feds - all Fed factions show you as allied too, even though you may never have been there before!

Best thing I found, was to move on, as I say - pick a nice new system, do a bunch of rep style missions, a bit of Bounty Hunting maybe, hit a RES zone if there is one, and so on.

It will happen - I promise - I had this exact problem ranking up with the Feds, with the Exbeur and Vega permits, but I am now a Post Commander!

Keep at it! :)

Haven't seen a rank mission since Warrant Officer, so I'm testing the theory of "do more factions". Done missions with 14 factions so far and still no rank mission. If I hit 20 factions and there's still no mission I'm going to call on the theory. Fortunately 1.3 will reset the mission system and hopefully fix the problem anyway.

Do you get this permit before the Sol permit, or instead? I just got it, and was looking for the Sol permit.

Thanks.

No about the missions. The amount of influence you need to gain with major faction increases with each Naval rank. So do expect that the missions to require more and more work. Also, not sure if you've taken this into account, but presume you did, there are a lot of factions that span several systems. So just migrating from system to system isn't going to cut it. Easiest way to keep track of that is to pick missions from Federal factions with the names that include system name in it, e.g., "Federals of LHS 625." Also missions you do for a particular faction range in usefulness. From my personal experience pizza delivery<fetch<charity<kill pirates/traders/authority<assassination. You can also bounty hunt in a system - it also increases your influence with a particular faction. About 10 mln cr got me from neutral to allied with a local faction. So in summary - Naval progression works as intended. I'm done with my Federal and now working on getting my Earl rank with Empire (had a Baron for a while). BTW, took me about 15 easy missions to get from Baron and Viscount just yesterday.

I wouldn't go this far. If you have gotten a rank and thus a permit, you may well have capped out your local influence and need a change of venue to continue to progress. If you move to the area of the permit system and start doing missions with fresh local factions, the next rank progression mission will come faster than if you stayed put.

This is what my son did. He would run missions for a system for a long time and then switch to another after he got a rank advancement or if it seemed like it was useless.

He made it to baron in about a week.

Same here, got to Warrant Officer and the 'request' to go to Ross 128 and now nothing :( totally stuck. Am actually friendly with the Feds but nothing. Gave up and went into deep space, did submit a ticket though in case it is a bug.

Beta Hydri and Sol permits.

In my case I got the permit for Beta Hydri with the promise of a communique from a Fed officer when I got there. So I duly travelled 176LYs and nothing, but a Sol permit appeared in my inventory :), goody gumdrops! I'll take the advice from previous replies and I'll do some rep missions. See if I can work my way to getting a Dropship.

A month ago I thought I was stuck from rank increasing, turns out I was doing it wrong.
Move around to new locations, do missions for the MINOR FEDERATION factions who are also listed as allied, not the major faction, you'll get your naval ascension missions.

Perhaps the 1.3 update will change how these progression missions work so that you will actually have a reason to go to the system you received a permit for. However, at this time, it is merely a way to inform you that you note have access to a system that previously was blocked to you.
I look forward to the day these are properly implemented. For now, however, my Lieutenant Knight Commander will continue to slowly gain ranks within his allied factions.
