Beta: Improve the Sub-surface Displacement Missiles

The other two mining tools work fine (although like others I think the ablative blaster should be rolled into the standard mining laser (hold over surface deposit until it pops)).

However I think the SSDMs could be made to function a bit better.

The main thing I don't like about them is having to fire multiple missiles, this has the following issues:
  1. The ammo expenditure at the moment is quite heavy
  2. Most rocks are spinning fast enough that the deposit has left your firing arc, meaning you either chase it (not easy in a bigger ship, and still disorientating in smaller ships) or you sit and twiddle your thumbs (or atleast use your mining laser) and wait for it to come back around

What I'd like to see is that you only have to fire one missile.
As the missile goes down and passes a blue zone you press Fire again to deploy a submunition
When the drill reaches the end the submunitions pop in order with a slight delay.

This would:
  • Mean you don't have to chase or wait for the spot
  • Save ammo
  • Eject multiple chunks in a tighter grouping
  • Look really cool. Like the rippling explosion of a building being demolished (or atleast a roman candle).

This is a cool idea, but there would need to be some mechanic to prevent players from spamming the fire button to get all of the deposit without actually doing anything skill-based. I'm thinking that the missile should have a fixed number of submunitions (say 3-5).

With a bit of luck, you should be able to get most of the deposit using a single missile, so you will still be saving ammo. At the same time, the need for correct timing is still very much a factor, and the skill-based aspect of the mining tool remains more or less the same.

I was thinking limited submunitions but also some sort of mechanic that caused damage to remaining deposits after a misplaced submunition.
Oh, and I forgot to mention you'd only get one shot at the deposit as the missile would do a large explosion at the end

Personally I'd like to see them operate on a cooldown with infinite ammo, considering that half the time they don't connect to a surface.

And don't get me started on how misaligned the crosshairs are.

Sub surface mining is broke, when watching the graph the bottom coloured area does not show half the time, Whats the point to mining is frontier just don't any attention to silly things like this, this is a bug as if it isn't they frontier are just wasting our time.
