Betelgeuse Has a Companion
The existence of a companion star to Betelgeuse, the red supergiant in Orion, has been confirmed. This blue-white star, larger than our Sun, was discovered using the Gemini North telescope and the "speckle imaging" technique. The companion orbits very close to Betelgeuse, explaining its six-year luminosity cycle. The next observation is scheduled for November 2027.
Now, the Elite Dangerous star catalog needs to be updated.
